• BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Just some transparency on why we disappeared for a few days.

DNS broke (it is ALWAYS DNS).

Some folks had cached data that let them visit the site for a while, but eventually it just stopped working. I was unaware until I started getting messages on the side (it had been loading for me).

I had time today to start chasing.

The way Eric had BOTL setup was that it's own server was basically hosting it's own DNS (which is OK) but there wasn't a backup - so if that DNS stopped working, the internet would lose it's information about how to get to BOTL.org.

And apparently it stopped working.

The biggest problem (for me) is that Eric was using cPanel and managed services to run BOTL. This is something I'm not overly familiar with (I prefer to do it myself without third parties) so I'm having to unravel a bunch of this as I go. And that's on me. Once I migrate this away and get it to a current version it'll be running in a format that I'm comfortable with.

But for now we're back...
