Currently we have 0% cigar tax in Pa, but our governor has a proposal for a tax. The rate I have heard is 40%. I wonder how this will affect the two cigar auction sites in PA. Hopefully the industry can have this proposal stopped.

It'll be just fine for the big online guys -- out-of-state orders are exempt from state tax laws. But buying locally will suck. Colorado's cigar tax is 40% of retail price, and it totally blows. But what can ya do?

This tax would be on the inventory, out of state is exempt from sales tax but this would be put into the price of the cigar retail price. I found a link hopefully it will work.

Damn, PA was one of my save havens (Holt's) for getting sticks at a very good price. I hope this doesn't go through.

My sister works for the head of the PA State Parks department and HATES Rendell. She curses everyday when she passes the Governor's mansion on her way to work. This will add more fuel to the fire.

You know they already have lobbyists working on this. The cigar companies in PA won't go down without a fight.

And there are some very big players (Holt's, CI, Famous Smoke)

No doubt, some of the biggest sellers in the industry.
