I've shot the 1911, but it felt too small in my hands. It fired like butter though.

Check out this Ultra Carry II w/3 inch barrel, if you'll be carrying.

http://www.kimberamerica.com/pistols/ultracarry/stainlessultra.php

I think that the .40 only comes in the stainless. The Pro Carry II has a 4" barrel.

Kimbers are sweeeeet! I've shot them at the range before, but don't own one. :sadstare:

It's on my wish list though!

For a .40 cal I'd save yourself a couple hundred bucks and buy a Springfield XD.....I LOVE that weapon, and so does most of the LE/Mil community ;-) I own one in .357Sig

drew -- I'm looking at a dressier pistol. in fact, my mind is almost set on a sig p226 elite, but saw some kimbers at the gun store that caught my fancy.

the springfield is too utilitarian looking, and besides I already have a glock 23.

Need a pretty gun eh? Kimber can do that, with a nice Satin Nickel finish...Just remember, chrome won't get you home...

Fortunately, the beauty of a Kimber is more than skin deep. It goes clear to the bone. My daily carry is a full frame Classic Stainless. I have been eyeballin' things a little more compact. Just today, I had my mitts on a Pro Carry II with the Kimber-branded Crimson Trace laser grips. I must ruminate.

I have been carrying an "ultra" compact but the frame is way to small for the larger calibers IMHO (.40 & .45).

I'm switching to the Glock 23 which is much easier to control in the .40 - IMHO of course.

The Kimbers are VERY nice though and shoot well.

I own a sig 226. I have not once regretted my purchase. I will always recommend it.

Gotta agree....my Compact Carry (.45) in SS is a sweet shooter & carries easily. It's on me every day. Remember, a carry gun is not supposed to be comfortable, it's supposed to be comforting! Kimber's are fine weapons. Now...if Hogue would just come out with a laser grip like Trace.......:glassesgr

Kimber ultra Carry in .40 is the way to go. I much prefer the .357 sig round however. Also stay away from the laser grips. THe main reason is that with training you will place finger along side the weapon and it will block the laser. Many shooters also come overdependant on lasers and when the have to hit the dort or have another weapon, they find themselves not so prepared as they like to think.

Kimbers are good guns, but for a little larger, I would go with a H and K compact or a Sig 228 or 239. They are my favorite out there.

I carry a FN 5.7 mostly now and I am trying to get a compact custom made for me. They factory will do a run of 100 compacts, but I am awaiting ATF import approval. I love this round and by far consider it to be the best round on the market at the moment.

Well, now...I guess I'll sell every firearm I own now that I know the Ultra Carry in .40 is the way to go. :glassesgr

Speakin' of sellin'...I have an H&K USP Compact .45 available. Great shooter and a reliable performer but I keep comin' back to the Kimber and I'm lookin' to simplify.

Cpmapct 40 or 9 and I would probably grab that up. I am not a big fan of the .45 rouns, how much you asking for it?

Got a Custom Classic in .45 ACP that is the cat's meow. . .it is by far the most accurate out-of-the-box pistol I have ever fired. I have never had a FTF and would bet my life on it. Stick with a .45 in a 1911 style pistol. That is what it was designed to shoot. If you want a .40, go with Sig, Glock or HK.

Me, I'm not as big a fan of the .40 or 9mm...but that's only in comparison to .45 ACP. I do have one 9mm...the Kahr PM9. I bought it for those occasions when extreme concealability is called for...but it doesn't hurt that it's a handful of fun on the range. I've thought about picking one up in .40 but I'm still not so sure. Subjectively, I feel the .40 has a sharper recoil profile than .45 ACP and in a pistol as light as the PM40, I just might not be too fond of that. Besides, I just read that they're introducing a PM45 this summer.

Decisions, decisions.

Kimber makes a FINE 1911 in any configuration.........but, I would go to a local range that rents and try some models out. You might love the 3" with 230+P's or you may HATE it, but you're going to want to know before you drop $800.00+ on a carry gun. I carry a SIG P220 and have for 15+ years, I have a couple of 1911's but for me I like a DA/SA gun.....plus it runs better for me then any other gun I own right now or in the past.

The recoil or bits is subjective and has to do a ton with which weapon you are firing. Sprng tensions, weight, and over all angular build have a lot to do with it.

I dont like .45 for several reasons. Muzzle flip is hard, muzzle blast is huge, noise level is deafening, magazine capacity is far more limited. Most shootings for self defense occur at a range of less than 3 meters. The .40 caliber has a 98% first shot stopping percentage which is awesome. The .357 sig has just come back with a 97% first shot rating. I prefer both of these calibers over a .45.

Again it is a matter of preference, but I have spent a shit ton of time firing these weapons as I was in the SF in the Marines.

I'm well aware that it's subjective...which is why I used the word "subjectively." Shoot what you want. I'm not lookin' for converts.

I'm happy with my CZ 75B. It took me awhile to find a gun that fit my hands (big hands) and had a good feal to it. It's not the lightest out there but it shoots really good.

Wowsers!!!!! How much?? I love the FiveSeven, and a compact version would be shweeeeeet!.

I recently picked up a Pro Carry II, the deal was just to good to pass up, and I love it. The weapon performs flawlessly, and is very well put together. In fact, I am considering buying an Ultra Carry at the moment, found a couple good deals on them. If you are still interested in one, shoot me a PM, and I can send you some links and phone numbers.

I need a new pocket gun, and while the Pro Carry doesn't exactly fit the description of a pocket gun, I like it. I am trying to pick up a KelTec in .380, but they seem to have skyrocketed in price, and I'm not going to pay $360ish dollars for one. I remember about 3 years ago, they were selling for under $200...WTF, over?

Who ever is selling Kel-Tec .380's has a hell of truck payment, we have these for $269.99 all day long...take a hard look at the Kahr PM or Coverts..they make these in real calibers and are not much bigger then the KT. We run into the 3" Ultra 1911's all the time and guys really wanting them, but have had really spotting results with them ( ALL brands ) I would try and rent one first, they are REAL fussy.
