I had a question about "modifying" a humidor. I know most humidors come with the black vented cases to hold the wet foam. I've been reading that some people just take out the foam and put in beads for humidification instead. Is there anything I need to keep in mind when doing this? And a quick add on, is there a advantage of digital hydrometers vs. analog?

getting rid of the green florist foam, and replacing with beads is a good idea. Put the beads in a small cloth bag to prevent them from spilling out of the humidifier. The analog hygros that come with humidors are decoration. Get 1 of the recalibratable hygros, and you will be set.
