Range:

Whatever FMJ I happen to pick up

Defense:

1. Cor-Bon JHP 150gr or 2. Win. SilverTip 155gr. Still have some HydraShocks, but prefer the other two. If I have the .357 SIG Barrel in, just carry Federal JHPs.

They were in my neighborhood a couple weeks ago. Last fall I was running a chain saw and they walked up to me. Boy did that take will power. I just yelled I"M KINDA BUSY!!!!! and revved the engine. They left. :stretchgr

At the range and for IDPA matches, where I shoot a Glock-21, for the most part I shoot Winchester "White Box" 230gr ball from Wally's World [chronos about 825fps, it's cheap and shoots fairly well]. I'm stockpiling MagTech 230 ball when I can find it and working towards reloading, but it takes time to gather all the tools.

For carry, I'm partial to Speer 230gr GoldDot... there's just SOMETHING about a flying ashtray... heheheh! For the Smith 638 Airweight it's, again, the GoldDot, Shortbarrel +P. I also have a good supply of Federal 230gr Hydra-Shok that I got from an LEO friend when his department switched their duty ammo to the Federal HST. I've carried the Corbon PowRBall, but personal testing [bound water-soaked phone books] showed inconsistent expansion. That's when I made the GoldDot change.

Check six. ~(*_*)~

When all else fails, align the sights on the target and press the trigger. -J. Michael Plaxco

When I shot at the range, I would shoot up whatever I had in my mags (gold dot, JHP or whatever; in other words the good stuff).

After that was done, I shot whatever I had on hand, usually FMJ, sometimes reloads.

When I left the range, more of the good stuff went in the mags.

drew,

which are the best places to pick up hydra-shoks in town?

how about magsafes?

MagSafes are expensive everywhere, I order mine straight from the manufacturer. HydraShoks are cheapest at (believe it or not) Wally World. Box of 25 was $12.95 last time I bought one.
