Adjectives used to describe cigars: the good, the bad and the ugly

I haven't read a lot of cigar reviews, but I was wondering what sort of adjectives are commonly used to describe cigars? As far the the look, the construction, the smell, the taste, the ash, the smoke etc?

I smoked 3 Gurkhas today and I can't put my finger on how I should be describing them. I want to describe them in ways that others can relate to. The double maduro, for example, was fairly heavy, yet smooth. Right at the end I thought I detected a bit of mocha flavour and the smoke seemed thicker than most other cigars I have smoked.

Can you give me examples of adjectives I could use to describe cigars of all classes? Even a random list would suffice.

Interesting thread! I just kinda picked up flavors on my own, and then I would smoke with people who had a good palat, and then I would compare. Worked for me, and I think I have a decent palat!

Ones I've used have been: leathery, earthy, grassy, sweet, chocolate, bitter, tannic, and shitty. :nodlaugh: Other than that my palate isn't defined enough to detect I guess.

Thanks for the info on this, guys. Most of list doesn't seem too far-fetched, but there are some real winners on there. Has anyone ever smoked a stick that tasted "flinty" to them? haha

I have heard Bob or Dale (DWSC) use that term before to describe that metallic taste you get with some NC cigars.

Now I want to smoke a flinty cigar and find out more about that taste. I've tasted the metallic taste, but nothing has struck me as flinty.

I doubt I'd ever use "flinty" as an adjective to describe cigar flavors...mainly because I don't recall ever putting a flint in my mouth.
