anybody collect military surplus,i keep a yugo m48a and a m44 russian around,they are a blast to shoot. working on getting another british .303 and finally an american springfield.i like these old workhorses.

I would love to get an '03 Springfield.

Only problem is I don't really have anywhere to go shoot a rifle. IF I had a handgun, I could go to a range here in town, but I don't know of any that will let you fire a high powered rifle. Or even a .22, for that matter.

Oh yeah! My favorite is, "Baby," my iron-sighted M96/38 Swede [6.5x55mm]. She was made in 1900 and will still put five into 3-1/2" @ 300m off the bench (I tried to attach her pic, but....). I also have a high-numbered M1 Garand, "Big Bubba," courtesy of ODCMP and, just today, I received from a friend a sporterized WWII Japanese bolt-action of, as yet, unknown model/caliber.

I was also posted with "The Northernmost" at Fort Wainwright, Fairbanks, AK '76-'78 with Echo/Alpha Co. 4/9INF Manchu [Keep Up The Fire!], 172nd Light Arctic Infantry BDE as an Indirect Fire Infantry Crewman [Read GRUNT!].

'Course NOW they have Strykers, but back in the day we walked damned near every frackin' where. Coldest known field temp [that I remember] was MINUS 63...where pee practically freezes before it hits the ground! :rolling: I LOVED IT!

Heck, -17 was a balmy day fer us! We didn't close Birch Hill [the Ft. Wainwright ski hill] unless it hit -25 and since I was on the Ski Patrol I got to ski anyway. I'll have to dig out an old pic of me in shorts and a Tee under the bak clock at -27!!

I loved being a "straight leg." Hated being around tanks-n-tracks with the Cav. Nothing but artillery and air magnets, needed lots of maintenance, and generally were a pain-in-the-ass. Plus, NUTHIN' likes to run in that kind cold. Back in the day I could pretty much walk most folks into the ground, and was damned fast on nordic skiis. If I hadn't been a wee bit of a disciplinary problem [I HATED garrison life... you know, "At Ease, get a Haircut and buff the mutha-frackin' hallway!] I would've been at NWTC as I usually bested their best in biathlon comps.

We get drunk, stupid, and picked up by the MPs....I've been stuck in Garisson to the tenth power for the last 16 months..I'm going insane, I've been begging at every chance that arises to get outta here for a day or two..Last month I helped the Whiskey students do land nav lanes (and I HATE land nav), I voluteered to role out with the guard unit here should Dean or anyone else set foot in Texas....
