View Full Version : New Year's Day Grub 2008
I have a big pot of jambalaya on the stove simmering, black eyed peas and cornbread.
Gonna kick back and eat all day, drink beer and watch football. I'm sure I'll find time for a few cigars too.

Man that sounds good!!! I should make a road trip!:stretchgr
Actually, Mrs. Tuba put together a nice antipasto, and for dinner she is making a pork roast with saurkraut and dumplings.
It's a tradition I have for making jambalaya, and some black eyed peas on New Year's Day...the recipe changes every year (andouille sausage, chicken and shrimp this year). Oh, and corn bread is a must!

I've heard it's very bad luck to eat chicken on new years? You should have pork and yeast risen doughnuts. The chicken is know as a messy eater and scratches at and scatters it's food. Definition is that this represents the way your cash flow will be. Where the pig hords it's food and gathers it near to itself. Definition is that this represents you gathering more money. I don't know but it sounds like a lot of superstition to me. Oh yeah and the doughnuts represent a rise in income. We all know that black eyed peas are just plain good luck. Happy New Year Everyone!
I've heard it's very bad luck to eat chicken on new years? Well, shit, too late!
And how come you didn't share this gem earlier? :frownno:
J/K ....but that may explain my financial situation lately :scratchhe
Note to self:
Scratch chicken from the menu next year.

Is there any way to cancel out the Chicken Hex?

LOL! My very good friend had this happen to him last year and this is the only reason I know about it. It's kinda like one of those things out of sight out of mind. None of us knew about this until a new friend as of last year had a little suare and right at midnight my buddy goes to eat one of the fried chicken legs and boooooooom! Our new friend informs us of the bad luck and the whole story and all that crap. Well now I have to practice that mumbo jumbo, right? Well my friend didn't have a ton of bad luck but at the beginning of 2007 he did have some weird things that you could classify as bad luck happen to him. Unfortuneately this year we didn't get to spend it with some of our friends but he did call at midnight to announce that his hex was over! I wish I could help fredneck, send me your addy and I'll send you some good luck and possibly negate the potential bad luck.

Had the left overs from last nights dinner, Chicken Arrabbiata.
There is chili on the stove right now with white rice & corn muffins.

I did a spinach/artichoke dip, a buffalo chicken w/ bleu cheese dip, home made mini meatballs in a simple vodka sauce and bruschetta with shallots, fresh mozz and vine tomatoes.
Roommate made turkey (party foul) chili. Good night overall.
