My 1000th post contest.

OK, so here;s another 10th post contest, and it won't be easy. I'm a huge football fan, and having been born and raised in DFW I am of course a huge Cowboys fan. You must answer 2 questions, and I'll let you know when you get one right. I might even give out 2 prizes, we'll see.

My guesses:

Defense/Special Teams: Bill Bates

Being a lineman by trade, I'm a sucker for the hard workers. Moose and Bates worked as hard as anyone and were always the most humble guys on the field. My favorite memory as a Cowboys fan was when Emmitt broke the rushing record. Right after that, when everyone was trying to congratulate him, he pushed through everyone and went straight to Moose while he was broadcasting the game and hugged him and told him thanks. Still makes me teary eyed!

The best thing about Bill Bates is that he never came into the season with a position. The coaches told him every season for 15 years that he would have to earn his spot, and he did. There were years when they told him he would not make the roster during preseason, but he always did. In college he was told he was too slow to play in the NFL, so he tied himself to the back of a friend's truck and told him not to stop unless he fell. Well, he got faster!

The Special Teams position in the Pro-Bowl was created for Bill Bates. He was a goo, old-fashioned football player.

When you included Special Teams, that signaled only one possible answer. I am a lifelong Chicago Bears fan, but I always admired the way Bates played the game and thought he would look good as a Monster of the Midway. Heck, how many players can say an All-Pro position was created for them (Bates was the first NFC All Pro Special Team selection).
