So, I have been thinking about my first box. As I can't seem to make a decision, I was thinking of putting it up for discussion.

Mainly, I am looking at a smaller smoke, so no longer than 5 inch, could be smaller.

My choises so far...

Rocky Patel Vintage 1992 Perfecto
CAO Criollo Pato
CAO Cameroon Robusto
Oliva Serie O Petit Perfecto

mid price range
Camacho Coyolar Puro Perfecto #1
Camacho SLR Perfecto #1 (maduro)

higher price range
Oliva Serie V Double Robusto

Max price range, actually a little higher than I was thinking of going.
Oliva Special S Robusto
Arturo Fuente Hemingway Short Story
Zino Platinum Scepter Chubby

Anyother suggestions welcome, thoughts on the options...etc....

Basically, the idea is to find a cigar, that will be a good sub hour smoke, on a farily regular basis, cycling with some other cigars. Maybe in the end getting 2-3 from the list to cycle.

That's tough to say, I'd stick with a smoke that you had before and enjoyed, this way you don't get stuck with a box of smokes that you don't like. If I were buying my 1st box, I'd probably go with the RP Perfectos :-) Let us know what you decide....

If not the RP Perfectos, the Short Storys are a great smoke and not a bad price either. I'd say IMO, it's worth the extra $$ for the Fuentes.

The SS or any of the Olivas. You can't go wrong with any of them. Guess it depends upon how much money you are willing to spend.

Short Story. When I buy my first box, thats whats its going to be. You can smoke 'em right out of the box, but theres tons of aging potential as well.

As a new smoker, I smoked every Oliva I could get my hands on. And was never disapointed. the Serie V is a great cigar, but I like the O, the G, and the Bold....as well. The short story is good, but a little pricey.

So far I can get
A mix of three
RP V1992 P
Oliva SS
Short Story

For a total of 315.

I wonder if I can find better deals, or if I am seeing holiday pricing still.

If i do that, it would probably be my cigar budget for 2-3 months. Which is tough cause I am a shopoholic, but it would be awosme to put a few of each to age, and a stock to smoke when i want for the next few months. allowing me to age some of my other singles more easily for a few months.

i have tried at least one of each, so i know i wouldnt be dissapointed in any way....decisions...deciisions....it would certainly give me something to bring to the ny herf in feb i would imagine :-)

My first box ever was Maria Mancini DeGualle, love them, then it was Fuente Chateau Fuente SG. Both would be a good choice.

Oliva would be a great first box to keep around. My first was actually a Oliva G Toro box.

CAO Criollo Pato is an awesome smoke that never disappoints and the same goes for the short story..

It looks like the vote is leading to the SS, with the Oliva in close second.

No support for the RP Vintage. :-)

I will let it ferment in my head for a bit, maybe buy a couple more singles of each, and then decide.... but the brothers say Short Story.

RP vintages are awesome, too! I have a couple boxes of those. But yeah, for short smokes, it's hard to beat the Short Story. I like the little Brazilias the best, tho.
Either way, you can't go wrong with any of the mentioned boxes! You could also maybe get two or three boxes total, and do a box split on here, where you sell off a couple fivers from each box. That way you get a decent amount of a few different cigars without having to pay for multiple boxes.
