When I met Pete last Friday he said that although La Riqueza has a Connecticut Broadleaf, which is usually a maduro wrapper, it will not be a true maduro. It will be naturally fermented and therefore darker, but not fermented for an extended period to become a maduro.

smoke my first last Wednesday (thanks TexasSmoke!!). was not impressed. had burn problems, wouldn't stay lit, quite harsh w/a burnt taste. about the halfway point, it completely changed! no more probs with the burn, and it became very flavorful!! all i could think of is that i didn't let it set long enough.... i'll certainly give'm another shot!!

No idea on the per-stick price. A BOTL got a box from Pete and was kind enough to send me one. I'm looking forward to it!

They are supposed to go near $16-18 a stick. Will be packaged in a 19 stick ceramic jar, which has been shown in prior posts. Part of that price, will be to cover the costs of a more expensive jar, but might be a little market reaction to the relase of these.

I initially heard in the $12 range, but it got bumped up, at least out her in Gouge City USA>>> lol.. I bet it will be more likely in the $15 range +/-.

I already have a jar reserved through my friend, as well as some extras sticks.
It probably will be limited to 19000 jars release, so don't wait to buy some.

Jay, these are going to help me decide if I get a jar or not. There are too many good smokes out there right now. One of my favorite Tats is the West Coast. Can't seem to get enough of them. I have smoked a cab and half and now I really enjoy them they not going to make anymore. Go figure.

That was always the plan, though.

On the blacks, if you like the Tats, you'll love the black. Very similar to the regular line, particularly the Browns, but seems to be more refined. Smother you could say. Now, I've heard several people say they didn't like them so smoke both of em before you make a decision. I think there were consistency issues with the prerelease.

Been there before...expecting the impossible from a cigar. I guess that's the negative result of hype...over expectation.

As for me though, i sould be able to keep an open mind. I love teh havana line but haven't been too crazy about the brown label. I'm figuring the blakc to be somewhere's in between.

"Hi Adam -- I spoke with Tatuate this morning and as of today they have yet to set a price on the "black" release. However, their best "guesstimate" is around $10 per cigar with 19 cigars per container. The max order we could place was for two containers so I'll put one away for you."

This is the update I got from Melanie my awesome former B&M owner from when I was 18/19. So it looks like I got my jar whenever they ship and we have yet to know what the price will be as you can see.

If you want to nail a jar down I would go on Tat's website and check out their retailer location. That's how I found out my old B&M carried them. Then I just simply called and asked. It helped that I was able to name a long time employee of theirs so she knew I wasn't bullshitting about being a former customer.

Don't want to steal ALL of your thunder Tyler, but I talked with Pete for quite a while this Wednesday. The ceramic jars are all ready, but not quite all of the cigars are ready. He expects them to start being available in early May. They are an awesome cigar!

Wait until you get a shot at the new La Riqueza. They will be out in late May/early June and are simply exquisite! The No.3 Corona Gorda just rocks!

Pepin makes all Pete's stuff. The new La Riqueza will be made in Pepin's Nicaragua factory and will be priced less than the Miami (brown label) line. For you traditional Cuban cigar fans, the No.5 (minuto) will be avail in both dress boxes of 25 and slb of 50. The other 4 sizes just in the dress box.

I think the Black line also is from the Nic factory. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. Pete told a great story about how he was inspired to make the black line. If it doesn't make the canned interview I'll re-tell it on the show.

they should age very well in the foil.

I read somewhere that pete recommended leaving the cigars in the foil for an extra 6-8 months if possible to truly bring out the full potential of this cigar!

Okay, so I finally smoked a Tat Black...out of the 3-pack of "freebies" that Pete gave me Thursday at a Tat event.

I liked it -- a lot -- but I gotta say, it's quite different than the regular Tat lines. Much more mellow, definitely a smoother blend.

But even tho I liked it, it's not my favorite Tat. I think I still prefer the bold heavy profile of the Brown labels. I'd have to say that the Havana Cazadores and the Noellas are still my faves. They just fit my own personal flavor preferences better.

I thought the blacks were pretty stong! Definately packed with flavor though. I love the havana cazadores, but more recent productions of them with the darker wrappers have been a real let down to the way they tasted a year ago. We'll see if they can get back on track. Lovin the blacks right now.

Oh they're still strong...but the blend is so smooth that it takes some of the edge off (if that makes any sense) compared to the brown labels--and I think I personally prefer that edginess.

I just emailed my "hook-up" to see if she got her two jars in. Hopefully she hasn't forgotten about little ole me. I figure with the advice of letting them sit for 6-8 months I'll do just that. I'll just have them shipped to my woman's house. Seeing as how they're wetpacked in the foil they should be pretty woman proof. I think. Hmm maybe I should still have them sent to me here in Turkey.

I called around the local B&M's to see if anyone had sticks, an ETA or waiting list and was told by one that they had 28 sticks in stock they would hold for me. I showed up to find some reserve's with "black bands" under ther brown. I so much like the cigar slut better than the cigar teese.

I just talked my "hook up" in pittsburgh. It's a b&m and he said he's getting in only 3 jars. I politely asked what it would take to get him to hold a jar for me. He said he's not going to sell them by the jar, but rather in an effort to make them availabel to everybody, he's going to limit it to 1 or 2 per person per day. Looks like i need to find 19 of my closest friends and take them on a trip to pittsburgh.

Just got off the phone and my jar is paid for. It will stay at an undisclosed location awaiting my arrival. This way I don't have to worry about it making a trip half way around the world twice. Melanie the owner is hiding it for me and keeping it until I can stop in the shop for a smoke with her. What an awesome lady. I'll have to give her a big hug and bring some black dog coffee with for us to drink while we smoke. So I will not be able to share until Sept/Oct sometime. I'll keep sharing in mind though brothers.

(sat) They had 2 or 3 jars left and they were actually selling them for 224 or something like that. Thier standard 10 % of box price. There was a nub event and I dont think many noticed it. Around here, there is just too many people with too much money. The B&M's that get this kind of stuff can charge whatever they want and get away with it. I paid $285 and they wanted an extra $45 for the jar which I passed on! They wouldn't even do the usual box discoount on these. They got three jars in and don't expect more any time soon.

I'm still on a waiting list for another B&M for a jar when they get theirs. If anybody is looking send me a PM with what your willing to pay and your cell phone number. I'll have to commit the same day to get them to hold it for me, you'll get a call with exact info before I do anything.

I also, overstocked a bit with what I bought last night, so if anyone dosn't mind the 15.90 price plus shipping PM me and I'll get some out to you. I bought 33 sticks and only plan on keeping about half that. The rest is sell or trade for something I can't get localy.

Well, I haven't had one yet, that could change up or down!

To be honest I was a little surprised at the price myself because they normally aren't the cheapest around by far. If anyone lives near Richmond, VA though the store is Havana Connections and they still have a few in as of yesterday, but it is walk-ins only and one per customer.

I admire your position, but sadly around here the choices are to pay the fairy man, or don't take the ride. So I end up paying an extra buck or two for smokes to get stuff I can't find on line for cheaper.

They still work out well for trade though, because when I find someone in a cheaper area for smokes, I overvalue what they paid for theirs so it still works out even. Hell, just part of the cost of not owning a snow shovel!

I read somewhere that i think maybe pete recommends antoher 8 months of age in the jar before smoking. but with all the excitement, i doubt i'll be waiting 8 months just to try one...once i get them.

The first four months on mine will be easy. The rest of the way to eight or more will be the more difficult. Scott on second thought instead of sending it to you when I get back I'll send you one when I tear into the foil. I'll leave them be in the jar until 8 months.

I have smoked a couple, they are pretty good smoke, there may be some aging potential, they are just a touch harsh. I have not been able to get a hold of a jar, if I ever do I will age them, but since I have only been able to get 6 so far, I am going to smoke 'em up...

I am almost sure that anyone looking for a jar is SOL at this point. I know there's a B&M up in Wilkesbarre that had gotten a jar that they were going to sell singles out of. It's called El Humidor not sure if you want to take a trip eastward just for some smokes though.

What is the latest. Last I heard Pete was having problems getting the correct shade of wrappers and he only had enough for like 700 jars. He didn't know what the next move was. Any validity to that? I haven't heard anything about October, is that definite or speculation. They're also going to have a bunch more singles sold, and I'm betting they're through NewHavana.

The blacks are still being made. The wrappers are what Pete wants now, I believe. The singles that got sold were not what he wanted for the jars, thus selling them as singles. NHC and a couple other shops have the cello singles. A black label is a black label in my eyes. hehe. I'll smoke them all!

The blacks will even be better with at least 8 months to a year aging. hehe.

Remember, and this comes from the horses mouth (Sorry Pete), he makes cigars that he loves and if people buy them and enjoy them, great.
