Rocky Patel is a great guy -- one of the nicest I have met. Probably the most passionate person about cigars there is.
His sticks are very good, and I have a couple boxes, especially the '92 Vintage (got a box of Sixties with awesome plume!). But there are also way better sticks out there! And everybody does have their own opinions, but the fruity, nutty flavors I'm getting out of the Vintage line tastes nothing like any of the Habanos I have ever smoked. I think Cabaiguans are some of the most Cuban-esque cigars out there right now.

I would never say anything bad about Rocky or his cigars, but they are nothing like Cubans and in my opinion there are cigars out there that are much better. Although I do enjoy hearing everyone's opinions on cigars. That's why there are so many different brands out there today -- because everybody likes something different!

Actually, that sentence should read:
Rocky is definitely a real decent stick, only a fool would say otherwise.

buy the way bret farve retired, hello losing season
And then this one should read:
By the way, Brett Favre retired, hello losing season.

Capitalization
Punctuation
Grammar
Spelling

You should try some of these, when done correctly, they tend to make people not look so uneducated.

I'm not a big RP fan, but there are alot of people that like them. Different strokes for different folks. However, I disagree with your assertion that RP makes the closest thing to a cuban cigar. There are others that come to mind before that imo.

The RP Vintages are both very good smokes, in my opinion. And in the near future, I plan on buying plenty of 'em. But I'd agree with others that they're not as Cuban-like as other sticks I've smoked. Then again, that's sort of a good thing--I like variety, and if everything tried to be Cuban, I'd be a little sadder. I like Nicaraguan sticks that taste Nicaraguan, and Honduran sticks that taste Honduran, etc.

RP does have some good smokes, but not the best comparison IMHO. Smoke what you like and like what you smoke.

That's not right, he shoulda' bought you a drink and at least offered you a box of his many doggy rockets that he is notorious for making:stretchgr

RP does make some rockets but he also makes some very good sticks. The 90 and 92 vintage are good as are the olde world reserve, and edge.

I'm a big fan of RP especially the Vintage 92's. I always keep some in my humi.

I used to think Rocky Patel was the best for a while (As far as non-cubans go) but then I ran into Oliva and now all the Pepin cigars. With stuff like Serie V and Tatuaje I don't care much about RP's new stuff. The 1992 is still good, I have a couple fivers hidden in the bottom of my cooler. I'll probably revisit them sometime.

I actually preferred the Vintage 1990 and Sungrown to the Vintage 1992.

Mr Patel does make some good cigars, but I wouldn't compare any of his offerings to habanos. Actually I'm not sure why anyone compares cigars from Nicaragua, Honduras, etc. to those from Cuba. A good cigar will stand on it's own no matter where the tobacco is grown.

BTW mr008 ... are you arguing with yourself in that first post?

I concur with joshua. To begin with RPs were premier in my smoking. As my experience has expanded and my palette has taken in a broader range of flavors I'm finding the RP profile to be just one of many I enjoy and none a current favorite, though Vintage 92s and Sungrowns are an essential part of my lineup. The rest have only been passing acquaintances.

That is one of the true joys of this hobby. There are a great variety of choices to try, and one can always find new sticks that suit them.
