Economic stimulus payments will be issued according to the last two-digits of the main filer's Social Security number. For joint filers, the payments will go out based on the person listed first on the return. Payments will be made by either direct deposit or paper check, consistent with how people filed their 2007 tax return.
People who use direct deposit also will be among the first to receive the payments starting April 28. Direct deposits will be made daily and completed by the date listed below:

Paper checks will also go out based on Social Security number. For Social Security numbers ending in 00 through 09, the paper checks will be mailed starting May 9 and will continue through May 16. A similar process will be repeated in the following weeks.

Seriously though, you filed electronically this year and had your original return deposited into your checking account via direct deposit? Did you file early or did you wait until the last possible day?

I've heard that those late filers may not receive their refunds according to the schedule posted by thecatmac

Discovered the problem. I used TurboTax online and paid for the use via my refund. When doing that, SBBT is the middleman, collects the payment for the use of the software, and then forwards your refund. This is the pop up on the SBBT page right now:

"If you qualify for an economic stimulus payment and if you used SBBT to pay your tax preparation fees from your refund, the IRS will mail the economic stimulus payment directly to the address on your tax return. Your payment will not be direct deposited. For more information on the economic stimulus payments, go to www.irs.gov or call 800-829-1040"

Looks like I will be waiting a couple of more weeks.

I believe the only way it causes a paper check is if you paid for the use from your refund.

If you bought turbotax, paid for the online use of turbotax with a credit card, or paid from a balance in checking account, I think you are fine for direct deposit.

You must be correct because I purchased Turbo Tax and paid for my fees with my debit card instead of having it deducted from my refund. My stimulus check showed up right on time in my account.

I had my refund direct deposited and have not received my stimulus rebate yet. I read somewhere though that if you had your refund fees (H&R Block) taken out of your refund instead of paying up front then you will have your rebate mailed to you for some strange reason.

I've heard the same. I guess it's because H&R block collects your refund and distributes it to you or some smack like that. I did mine through Taxact(.com) and received mine a few weeks ago.

I did my taxes and got my refund back in Feb. Got my "stimulus" check like three weeks ago or so. Just sent the whole thing to my credit card. Gotta pay that sucker back down after all the moving expenses....
