Today, Juan Abel Escalante, a 2 1/2 year veteran of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department was laid to rest. Juan was killed last Saturday, by 3 coward gang members. He was shot from behind while he was in front of his house, while other family members were inside.
Juan was assigned at the Men's Central Jail Facility in Los Angeles. He is survived by his wife and three children.
I just left the funeral and it was amazing to see men and woman from hundreds of Law Enforcment agencies from California and neighboring states.
Rest in peace Juan. You and your sacrifice will never be forgotten. We will continue to do the job for you!

This AM on my way to the office (i drive the streets through downtown to Hollywood) I saw many of the streets shutdown. In fact I also saw lines of LAPD and LA Sheriff cars heading in to downtown as well as Beverly Hills PD.
The LAPD shutdown a bunch of the streets in downtown. The CHP shutdown the 101. I didn't realize this AM that it was for the fallen off duty officer I found out this afternoon when I was taking the 101 home.
This really hit home with agencies across the south land as well as out of state well. The presence of law enforcement and the shutdown of a major freeway as well as major streets in downtown is evident that respect was shown. I've only seen a presence like this when the US President was in town.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the officers family. Also to all the men in uniform, armed forces and law enforcement. God Bless you all for the duty and protection you provide.

Horrible! Im sorry Bill! Sometimes I wish we could just round these people up out of society and put them on some island or worse. Just horrible.
