Really, what's wrong with having this page? So what if things get heated. Don't respond if you feel you can't handle someone disputing your opinions. I just honestly can't find a reason this shouldn't be a part of BOTL.

I agree. Normally I don't participate in debates but lately I've been a little spunky, it's been very interesting.

I like the debate idea. the key is to keep it civil. I personally would not want to see any inflamatory statements of a personal nature. We are all adults and should keep our responses on a mature level. Personal insults would cross the line, IMHO.

I agree 100%.
If you break that rule there probably be some consequences.

So far nothing has been wrong with the debate room.
I hope we keep it that way.

The only problem I have with it is that now there are too many threads for me to keep up with. It definitely has brought the activity on the board up. Maybe things will calm down in a little bit.

Right now this is a wonderful addition. The members are respectful and it has added to my enjoyment of the board. Hopefully the level of civility will remain and the room can continue.

I agree, It has definetly shown us that for the most part we agree on more than we disagree on...

And what's even better, at least to this point, is that when we don't agree we still respect each other enough to accept a differing POV.

nb: It's the Debate Room not the Argument Room nor the Name Calling Room.

Basically, if you can't handle yourself like an adult then you shouldn't post there. I think it's a wonderful part of BOTL.

I personally don't see anything wrong with the debate room. I enjoy cigars the most when I spend the time smoking having a discussion with one or people. The exchange of ideas is key to any good discussion. But that's mvho.
For my part, I read the threads based upon my interest in the subject matter. There are some very personable brothers on this board. I've enjoyed reading their posts, have interacted with them when I think I can contribute and I look forward to participating in future discussions with them. There are very good rules laid out for conduct within the Debate Forum and available actions against those who abuse either their privilege to use the space or the other participants. I would be disappointed if the forum would be eliminated as a wholesale action as a result of a minority of participants.

...........available actions against those who abuse either their privilege to use the space or the other participants. .........
lol, that should be read as an indication that the abuse of the space is the problem, not the abuse of the privilege to use other participants... what use the participants make of each other is of no concern to me.....:innocent:
