... in my local area seems to be reaching a very critical stage (getting almost scary).
Case in point: I submitted an application for a job last Friday with a small local company. Yesterday (Monday) at 10:30am I received a call from them asking if I could come in for an interview at 12:30pm. I said I already had an appointment at that time, but would be free all day Tuesday. She said OK, please come in at 12:30 on Tuesday.
This morning I received a call that I no longer needed to come in for the interview as the position had been filled. She said they were amazed at the sheer volume of well-qualified people who had applied and interviewed for this job. She would keep my resume on file in case things didn't work out though ...
The advertised job was a Shipping / Receiving Clerk paying $12-$15 /hr.

Amen to that. I scored well on the census test and am at the top of the list in my area. They said they will start calling ppl in the next 2 weeks for training and jobs. I hope to be back to work full time by the end of the month!

Not sure of your exact local but my wife talks with people in the Central Offices around California and AT&T is still hiring in a lot of locations. She's retired but still talks with the ladies she knows in IT and Planning and they are the first to get information of job openings. Never hurts to put in the application and resume' there. Once in there there are a lot of different roads to take.

In my last position, I was a Business Analyst / Project Mgr / Logistics Applications Support ... but I've worked at everything from Material Handler to Shipping/Receiving Mgr to Unix Administrator at one point or another over the past 30 years.
