Size: 5" x 54
Shape: Robusto
Wrapper: Nicaragua
Binder: Nicaragua
Filler: Nicaragua
Price: $6.25 (CA retail)
Location: Backyard deck

I've been hearing good things about this line that was re-released by the Newman company last year. On a recent pass through a local B&M, I finally found a box of robustos in stock and decided to buy a couple. The local retail prices are inflated due to the high tobacco tax in CA - but these are available online in the $4 - $5 range.

Prelight: Wrapper is a chocolate brown color with some small veins and a nice sheen. The cigar overall is very firm with a slightly woody + grassy aroma.

First 1/3: Black pepper is fairly dominant for the first few minutes, but it settles down and is joined by some woody and coffee / mocha flavors. Draw is excellent with just slight resistance. Burn is even and the ash is firm + grey. Strength and body are both medium.

Second 1/3: The flavors are mostly mocha, wood, and sweet tobacco, with occasional hints of dried fruit. The pepper is still around too, but well into the background. The smoke is very thick and creamy. The ash held on for almost 2 inches before a gust of wind helped knock it to the deck. Burn is still pretty even. The strength and body remain in the medium range.

Last 1/3: The flavors are mostly the same, but they seem to have kicked up a notch - pushing just into the med/full range. Not lots of complexity here, just lots of great flavors and a very well made cigar. I took this down to just past the band where the smoke started getting a bit hot for my tastes.

Overall this was a very good cigar and a nice value. I can easily see a box of these in my humidor in the near future.

Great review. I would be all over a box of these if I had the room. Great stick for the price. Thanks for the review Ted!

Very "spot on" review Ted!

It's definately a good smoke for a very reasonable price.

Agreed with the value / profile of this cigar. Currently on my second box. It has become one of those goto daily smokes when I do not feel like burning a more expensive stick....

Just tried my second one of these last week and I think for the $$ they are really good. A box of these is on the way and I compare this cigar to the LGC Wavell as far as what you get in return for your money.

For the money this is a great cigar and I always have one on hand for a day when I want a good milder cigar. The Casa Magna is another you must try. Both great price and both a great cigar.
Excellent review!!

Funny that you mentioned Casa Magna. When I was at the shop to buy the BrickHouse, they were giving away free samples of Casa Magna. I selected one of the Colorado wrapped ones in a toro size and smoked it while I was there. I noticed the price was about a buck higher than the BrickHouse.

Overall I found that the Casa was just OK. To me it was a touch stronger and fuller in body than the BrickHouse. The flavor profile was somewhat similar though, with the Casa having more earth / pepper and less sweetness. The big issue with my sample was construction. The burn was erratic and needed a few corrections. In addition the cigar actually went out twice.

I'll try the Casa again sometime, but I prefer the BrickHouse over them.

I've been hitting these things up hard lately. I've tried every every one in the line, & they're all solid. I will say that the Toro is my fave, followed closely by the Robusto. I'd put a box of these in one of my humis in a sec if I had the room. Great investment!

I've heard nothing but good things on these cigars. Sadly to say, none of my local B&M stocks them. What a shame. I'll be going down to St.Louis these weekend. Maybe I can find them there.
