So, I really like using the balsa "filter" (it's more of a sponge) in my Savinelli Rhodesian.

The balsa is rather saturated at the end of a smoke...do you guys think it would be best to take it out and let dry outside the stem?

I can't decide and it stinks pretty bad when left out so I have been leaving it in and hoping it dries.

Maybe I'll just buy enough so I can just throw the filter away when finished. :dunno:

I also have one Savinelli with this type of flter. I just leave it in and then replace after 4-5 bowls.

I've seen pictures of this...With the nasties that come out on the pipecleaners after every bowl I would think that this thing should be thrown away? If you're not inhaling, then why even use it?

It absorbs the moisture. I'm not even sure it filters anything really...I do know it sucks up a bunch of moisture.

4 or 5 bowls huh? I could do that I guess. I plan on only smoking Penzance in this one from here on out anyway so residual flavor won't hurt anything.

YMMV ... the Virginia blends I smoke in this pipe don't seem to generate much moisture.
