I've been out of the loop for awhile I guess because WINMX is down. I've been using WinMX for a few years now and now it's gone. Can anybody offer up a few good sites to go to? Free is always welcome, but a low charge is cool too. My 15 y/o son suggested Sharebear, but I haven't checked into it yet. Anybody use Sharebear?

I haven't used any P2P programs in years. Lately it has just been bit torrents.

If you like live music check out the further client http://www.furthurnet.org/index.php
There are a bunch of artists which allow legal recording and sharing of their shows. There is a bunch of good stuff on there.
I personally hate most p2p cause I never get whole albums and stuff I like is harder to find. I generally hit up some personal FTPs and newsgroups. http://www.easynews.com has 20GB of download for $10 a month, with rollover. Plus you can get 500MB extra a week for taking their survey. They have a web based news client so you don't even have to use a program to download files if you don't want to. Plus you have complete privacy, practically no risk from the RIAA.

Oh newsgroups. I haven't used those in forever. Think I might have to jump back on that.
I remember when further first came out. I tried it out but there wasn't much acitivity.
Also, check out http://db.etree.org for live music.

From what I have been able to see, the p2p programs that are left are very unstable, lots of corrupt downloads and viruses. I have been using mirc, but a lot of the sites I query from have been shut down. Torrent sites seem to be the way to go, but the good ones you need an invite to join.

I use limewire for music, and I'm not sure if allofmp3.com is still up, but it's like dirt cheap. Anything besides music or music vids i use bit torrents for.

Yea, a lot of the torrent sites are member only. I tend to find most stuff I want on the public ones.

Sweet! Thanks a lot for the help.
Limewire is still good, IMO. I also use allofmp3.com for songs I can't get on Limewire.

All indie artists, free streaming and option to download in mp3, or buy and they will send you a cd in the mail. Lots of good music, but you do have to wade through some stinkers to find the gems.
One word of advice about using peer to peer software, if you make sure nothing goes into the share folder and disable uploads, you won't have to worry about ever getting sued by the RIAA.

dimeadozen.org is a great torrent site for live show also. Hard to get in but if you keep trying it pays off. Tons of shows from all kinds of artist.

Ugh I've cleaned up so many messes caused by people using Limewire without protection.
I use mininova.org and thepiratebay.org

Seriously you have better chances of staying clean at cheap brothel without a condom.
Limewire is like one large computer STD.
I have Limewire on my desktop and not my laptop. And it's just because of that reason. Then I use a flashdrive to put the songs on my laptop.

http://hypem.com/ heres a good site. It posts all the mp3s that music blogs have posted, and you can search for artists. Might find something you like or something new.
