IMO ... Pipes + torch lighters = :frownno: :stickbeat
Use a flame type lighter. IMCO makes some decent pipe lighters for under $10 ... usually found at most tobacco shops.

I learned the hard way and burnt thru the bottom of a pipe and set my pants on fire
use a pipe lighter with a softer flame and you will be a lot happier!

Burns the wood
Wooden matches or a flame lighter.
Torch + pipe = bad news
Then wich non-torch lighter would you recomend? :dunno:

Corona Old Boy
I really like the look and it works great, plus it has a tamper that stores in the bottom of the lighter.
I have this one (http://www.pipesforless.com/pewter.html).

That's cool Tom, it's a great lighter. Good heft in your hand and real solid feeling.
I would reccomend not getting one of these (http://www.milnejewelry.com/Colibri/lighter37.html). My Dad has had one for about a month and is already having troubles with it.

My dad had ones from back in the 70s...those worked well....he finally had to send them in to get fixed.
The new ones im sure are like most colibris, a pain in the ass

Yep, the Corona Old Boy is far and away my favorite pipe lighter. Buil-in tools, good construction, reliable, good angle on the flame, and a large fuel capacity.

I am looking into becoming a Prometheus dealer and saw these two that I thought were cool
Has a toggle switch to turn the vertical flame to a 45 degree flame for pipe smoking

This one has a permanent 45 degree angle & built in pipe tamper & punch cutter

I need to spend more time with the catalog (just got it last night). I do want to start carrying pipe accessories, so if you guys see anything that you think others might want as well, plmk.

Looks like the old boy would definitely be something to consider Mark.
I'll look at the prometheus catalog today.

I use a zippo for my pipe. Once it burns for a couple of seconds, no fluid smell of taste when I light up.

Is that not tough to get the flame to the bowl?

Alrighty, I placed my first order as a Prometheus vendor this morning. I included a few of the Barron & Churchill series for the pipe smokers!
I don't know anything about pipes, so I didn't include theirs in this order but will try to find opinions on them.

I saw their pipes and they may be alittle over priced depending on the quality.

I would list them at about 30-40% off of the MSRP, would that make them more appealing?

FYI - My Prometheus order came in last night and the lighters look & feel sweet.
I am obligated to list them for MSRP so if anybody wants one, please pm or email me for a big ass discount!

Hey Mark,
I really like that Rusticated #3 pipe. How much is that?
On the lighters, I really like that Lords, Araphao and Sherlock lighters.

Looking at the site, it looks like $75.
30-40% off of that is cool.
I'll try one out for you. :innocent:
Any of you guys use the old Nimrod type lighter? It was always my favorite when I smoked a pipe regularly, long ago. I see that a version of the Nimrod is still made.

Tom, the outer bottom portion slides back revealing the lighting chamber in the middle. It is a protective sleeve, if you will. There is a wheel and flint, with the wick in the middle of the chamber. You lay the ligher across the top of the pipe bowl and draw. They work very well in all conditions, including high winds. These were the cat's meow when I was a boy in the 19. . .never mind. . .
