so I thought these motherfuckers were supposed to compress a file. I'm emailing my friend one and the .zip is only like 1.2 mbs smaller than the original.

maybe I'm confused as to have a .zip does.

The compression depends on the contents. Also there are different settings for the compression. Check and make sure it is on the highest setting.

There is an option where you can choose the compression.

Usually goes: Store, Fastest, Fast, Normal, Good, Best

What was in the zip? If its something like images or mp3 files, those already are compressed so you wont get much compression out of it.

Chances are good that it's already compressed quite a bit. There's just no more extraneous space in the file to reallocate.
Imagine taking a well rolled cigar and trying to squeeze to poor bugger to make it a smaller ring guage. Well, seeing as how it was well rolled to begin with, it's not gonna go much smaller if any.
It's not at all a perfect analogy mind you, since that'd ruin a cigar but doesn't hurt a file at all.
