has anyone tried or use the z-plus insert for a zippo lighter? i saw it online a while ago, and thought it looked like it was worth a shot. i asked my local cigar guru about it, and he said it came from china, and that it has a history of breaking easily. anyone have any luck with it at all. i want to get it, especially after being routinely disappointed in colibri's for a # of years. is it worth the $12 or so to get it, or am i just whistling dixie?

We did a group buy on those about a year ago. Mine has been going strong since the day I received it.

Have had one for months with no problems. Worth it just to be able to use your old zippos.

I had one but the ignition stopped working properly on it. Used to press it and click and a nice torch light... then one day I press it down and it doesn't click in anymore, but I can hear the fuel burning off. Maybe I should see if I can take it apart sometime. They have a warranty on them but I would have to pay to ship it which would make it not really worth it.

I have one that was given to me by a good friend and fellow BOTL about a year ago. I use it more than any of my others. It's slim and pretty light so I don't mind carrying it around in my pocket. I think the only drawback is that due to it's size it doesn't hold much fuel. I just make sure I top it off before I leave the house.

Any reason to not just use a traditional zippo? I have read before that the fuel can cause a foul taste but I have yet to experience it. Generally I let the lighter burn for a few seconds to "clean up" and figure its good to go.

Yea, the zippo lighter fluid has that really strong smell. Well that goes into your cigar. I'd rather get a nice clean butane flame.

heard about that...also heard that if you use a match to let the sulfur burn off before lighting. This true?

Yes. You need to light the match, let the flare up that occurs burn off and then light the cigar.

I love my insert. I even gave some as gifts to friends, and other friends have asked me to get some for them. They are awesome.

Z-plus are made by Blazer, I also have a Blazer CG-001 lighter which is great as well. I never have any problems.

Let me say...this insert totally kicks-ass. You kinda have to keep the torch on the lower end of the setting available to avoid rapid fuel consumption but damn it is nice to be using a Zippo again...there's just something about flipping one open when lighting up.
