WOW, I can not believe the day is here already. I have learned so many thing from this board. There are so many people to thank that I would not know where to begin, and yet so much more to learn. This month in particular has been a blast for me. So it is very fitting this will be post #1000. In keeping tradition, I would like to host the Headbanger Ball 1000 Post Contest with just a couple rules:

Rule #1. If you have won a contest before, you are not eligible, please do not guess. Not trying to exclude those people, just want to give to those that have not had the opportunity a better chance to win.

Rule #2. You can make two guesses per calender day.

Rule #3. I need title AND artist to win. If after a day or two go by and no one hits it, I may give clues.

Rule #4. Have fun!

The winner will receive a very nice selection of cigars and may be catered to the winners tastes or likes. So good luck to all and thank you for letting into your world. Now to the question:

What was my very first CD I bought? Title and artist.

Clue # 1 added 5/26 12:30 EST, next clue will not be given until tomorrow. The CD player I played it on might have been the very first Sony Diskman CD player that they made and I had to plug into my boom box unless I used headphones. I also had an adapter that I could plug into the tape player for travel in the car before CD's were an option. The CD was bought before I owned a CD player.

Clue #2 added 5/27 15:40 EST, This Rock album CD insert shows a 1978 date, I believe produced and released in that year. (Duh, like would have been anything but Rock)

Clue #3 added 5/27 12:30 EST, This album has 4 members total and is American based.

WOW, great guesses brothers, keep them coming. I own or have owned at one time all but one of those albums (actually cassettes, remember those things and maybe a few on vinyl) but alas, none are correct.

Doc, remove and post another guess my brother for AC/DC, that's only fair.

And G, I did watch the Capt. and Tennille show back in the day. Muskrat Fever was OK, but did dig Love will keep us together. I loved the commercial they made a few years ago too.

Well, either way, my guesses are:

Brain, for my very first CD bought. As a reference point of time, I'll add a little something. The CD player I played it on might have been the very first Sony Walkman CD that they made and I had to plug into my boom box unless I used headphones. I also had an adapter that I could plug into the tape player for travel in the car before CD's were an option. The CD was bought before I owned a CD player. So that is officially additional clue 1 and will be added to first post.

And Randy, you definitely will not win with those guess. Next chance for you, midnight beotch.

PS, Ironically all the guesses pre-date the CD Walkman I refered to. I am not sure you guys were just really that good at guessing or were just lucky.

Celine Dion - I drove all night
Carrie Underwood - Jesus take the wheel

You know if you read 'bangers post about these - he said you're not going to win.

That just means these weren't the first CDs he bought.

That doesn't mean he doesn't own them NOW or is listening to them in car.

Three jokes:

Horse walks into a bar and the bartender goes, "Hey, why the long face?"

Sandwhich walks into a bar and the bartender goes, "I'm sorry but we don't serve food here."

Celine Dion walks into a bar and the bartender goes, "Hey, why the long face?"

Hmmmm. Where are we now.

Icehog, I have both of those still. Van Halen rocks for sure. Back in Black is in my top 5 albums EVER and still play today, but not my first CD bought. Very nice try sir.

Johnny, Iron "Fu@*king" Maiden, LOVED that album too and boy did they rock in the day. But I got older, I sold that and all other Maiden stuff on half.com before Ebay bought them out. I own some Aerosmith, but not that album. Sorry.

TX Stang, Ozzy does rule and Randy Rhodes rocks that album. I own this album, brings me back for sure and maybe in my top 20 all time, but not the 1st bought. Try again tomorrow sometime bro.

DOC, KISS Alive is a double album I own on cassette still, but not on CD. Was later found to be a studio tape dubed over with croud noise most of the tracks. Peter Criss sings "Beth" is weak even though others like it, a girl fav for sure. Good try. Guessed two and call me in the morning, ehehehehe.

Forgot some comments for earlier posters:

Boozer, Two of my favoirte bands and very good try. Motley Crew absolutly rocked this album, very hard core Rock and Roll, but not my first CD bought.

Prometheus, Judas Priest also a favorite band and if I had to pick one of thier albums, British Steel may be it. Iron Maiden self titled, both great guesses, both not right.

Geoffrie, Sabbath and AC/DC very good guesses also sir, with Ac/DC in my top 10 bands of all time. I may have had the Highway to Hell cassette, but no CD. Me sorry.

Mitch, Frampton Comes Alive is an AWESOME album. The talk box thing he used still sends goose bumps on my arms. Dark Side of the Moon was my first Gold Plated CD (only one still), but neither of these were my first CD.

Keep the nice guesses coming folks. Next clue should be given tomorrow when I get home sometime midday.

Steve: One clue I would like answered is if the album you are talking about was a studio recording or a live acoustic recording.

Is it an American group or Foreign??

Thanks, Mitch

Somehow Im thinking Allman Brothers......

The three above guesses got farther off track to help you somewhat. Earlier guesses were much closer to the style I like and the CD in question.

Good idea Mitch, I will give two clues tomorrow. I will give American or Foreign album and another clue that I had in mind already. If no winner by midnight tomorrow, I will post either a bigger clue just after midnight Sunday if I am on or Monday first thing when I get up (8-9ish EST). I Can't give a clue right now to hurt those that guessed today already.

Headbanger
05-28-2006, 07:46 PM
Mitch, Fleetwood Mac is a band, no album, so does not count.

Here's Johnny, Don't think I own any BOC and Hagar maybe one album. I do not think he had anything out in 1978.

Johnny7, My earlier clue today mentioned American bands? Who are these guys?

Ice Hog, you were SO close earlier bro. Not sure why you guessed VH II over VH I, but at least you did hit the right band.

Doc, I had KISS on cassettes, not CD's sorry brother, I know you tried really hard. I could not comment on your Van Halen guess earlier for Eruption. I am sorry, that is a song from Van Halen I and is on the very first CD I bought, but could not be accepted.

Geoffrie, YOUR THE WINNER !!!

My very first CD bought was in fact Van Halen I, Van Halen Van Halen which ever you want to call it. This album to me was unreal with Eddie wailing on his guitar and Eruption blew me away. I knew I had to hear that song along with all the others on that new technology before I could afford the player. Remember when that CD diskman came out, I was probably 13 years old or 14.The songs are: Running With The Devil, Eruption, You Really Got Me, Ain't Talking 'Bout Love, I'm The One, Jamie's Crying, Atomic Punk, Feel Your Love Tonight, Little Dreamer, Ice Cream Man and On Fire.

PM to you G. Congratulations to Geoffrie and thank you all for the jokes and guesses.

I feel for you brother. Eruption was song two. Nothing but Eddie Van Halen guitar solo for about two minutes was the main reason I bought it. Even a better try Doc if you do not know that music type.

It's all good, I really did enjoy learning about this stuff. When I looked up 1978 heavy metal the first thing that came up was Van Halen-Eruption. I should have known it wasn't an album but a song when it didn't show up on a long list of 1978 album releases. Oh well next time. :peace:

My Father has most of ABBA on vinyl. I would guess most people here do not know about vinyl or know about 78's or 45's. I never did like Air Supply much. But the wife likes Kenny G and her favorites are Michael Bolton and the Grandfather of Grunge, Neil Young. None of those play in my car or when I am around.

Dilemma #1
You're in an alley with Sadam Hussein, Osama Bin Laden, and Kenny G.
You have a pistol with only two bullets.

Question: What do you do?

Answer: Shoot Kenny G twice.

Dilemma#2
Back in the same alley but there's Michael Bolton and Kenny G.
Same gun with only two bullets.
Yes, yes, of course you get to shoot the both of them, but the dilemma is - which one do you plant the crack vial on?
Discuss among yourselves.
