I was just curious at what humidity everyone keeps there precious collections at? Myself I have my Antietam with a Cigar Oasis set to keep the humidity at 65%. I have two Western Digital Hydrometers, one on the top one on the bottom both reading 65%.

I have a 150ct humi and a 120qt cooler with beads in both. They both stay at a steady 64% and everything seems perfect. Cigars are smoking great!!

Since my collection is 98% cuban.. I try to stick to around 64-65%... with various degree of success... at the moment.. it is reading 67% in there.. but with an 86% humidity in the air, that isn't too bad after having a prolonged open door to check through for beetles last night....

I am not stressing too much over a small variance... I look at average and long term.. not if it varies a degree after a rainy day or not..

68% for me ... I compromised between 65% and 70%, which gave me 67.5%, but then I had to round up.

I've given this too much thought, haven't I?

Between 65-67%. Have some N/C's in a desktop at around 70%, but I'll probably stick some beads in it and drop it to the same.

Any where between 62-65 is cool.

Mine tends to fluctuate depending on the temp in the room. On colder days it sets in at around 62/63% and on normal temp days it's about 66-68%. They all smoke just fine regardless I've found though. It's only during the summer that I have trouble cuz the humidity rises and occassionally goes above 70% but I adjust it quickly.

Soon to be all at 65% once I get my bead containers all set. Right now mine are as follows:

It interesting to see what everyone's thoughts are on this, RonC I saw that you wrote 65%, is that what you would recommend? And what are your feelings on NC as opposed to Cubans?

64-65% here.

I started out storing at 70%, Probably like most of us when we were new to cigars. Over the years, I found that 65% was to my liking. I know people who store their ISOM at 60%. All a matter of personal taste.

I also use the 65% beads in my cigar cabinets along with the accumonitor. Helps in the summer months.

I try to keep mine around 63 or 64. My problem is that I like to open up my humi too much and have trouble keeping it stable.

i voted 64% but 64-65% is what i like best.

when i started out, i was shooting for 68% but dropping back a little bit (seemingly) gives me better results.

IMHO 70% is way too much for smoking, i think you'll have probs. there but for storage only, i think its fine.

I'd really rather avoid anything lower than 62-63%.

Anywhere between 64%-68%. I really try not to get too anal about the humidity.

I shoot for 65%, and with Climmax beads, that's a pretty stable deal....

65 but sometimes the cooler says other wise. Usually a bit lower 63, 64 if any fluctuation. Those beads rock!

I keep them at 64-65% humidity and no higher than 70 degrees in temp.

My cigars are kept in the humi on the lower level of my house it is nice and cool in the summer months and of course in the winter the heat maintains a good temp as well.

I never have a burn problem and I think it is due to the 65% humidity my cigars are kept at.

I use 70% beads in my cooler-dor. That keeps it between 65-70%. It stays in my bedroom, which is between 59 and 65 degrees, and is great for long-term storage, which is what the cooler is generally for.

In my humidor, I use a 50-50 combination of 65% and 70% beads.

I check them with a hygrometer every once in a while, but with beads I just do not stress over humidity. If the cigars consistently feel right every night, no need to worry.

kirscovitch
07-31-2006, 06:34 PM
mine usually stays at 68/62

i use a half pound of 65% beads. i think the cheap digital hygrometer i have in it is a little off.

tobby4
07-31-2006, 06:36 PM
yea it has just been so freakin hot here that keeping the temp down is damn near impossible

AZsteelman

65 dead on all the time

tobby4
07-31-2006, 06:44 PM
it is also coupled with the fact that I live in a 50 year old house.. my room with my humi is upstairs so it is even hotter up there... I would put the thing downstairs but i dont necessarily trust my roomates with the majority of the contents....

I use an oasis II. By bottom shelf tends to stay right on 65% and my top shelf right on 63%. I have noticed some of my CC smoke a little better at 63% so I keep them on top now.

I'm fighting like hell to get my cooledor down. Its been super humid here and every time I open it, bam it jumps up. I have a full pound of 65% beads and the sucker won't go below 69%. I have been dumping cedar into it like a fire place. I guess too many new boxes at once. You can really tell the difference as those babies close up tight at 69%. I hate no draw and have taken to setting them in a pre-smoke desk top for a few days. Any ideas?

Between my humidor, the heatwave, and the atmosphere my cigars can be anywhere from %69 RH, to %78 RH.

I am pretty discouraged.....

Just make sure the setting is on low!

I had to do this too. I ended up being happy with 1/4 white beads and 3/4 clear.
I'm sitting right at 65% even though outside rH is upwards of 80% most of the time.

I need to take mine out and dry them. It has gotten pretty humid in the basement.

An Aristocrat end table cabinet w/temp control by Bob Staebell. Natural maple with natural cherry inlay...should look gorgeous. Being able to control the temp is vital where I live, as there is no area of my home that is naturally cool.

Man, I'm antsy as a kid with Christmas approaching waiting for this baby!

Funny, it holds around 40 or so boxes plus the singles drawer and I was absolutely certain that this would be plenty big enough...ha! Everyone knows how that goes! I can certainly see now how the collecting bug can bite you, and bite you bad!

Nice! Can't wait to see pics!

Melted the Heartfelt mesh bag and the beads escaped all over the place. After corraling the suckers put back in the cooledor. Some improvement but sticking at 68%. Next I'm trying the fans.

That must be one helluva a hair dryer you have! Those suckers do bounce huh? I dropped a few once.

I have always kept my cigars at whatever humidity I could get the crazy thing to level out at without changing all the time.:nodlaugh:

But I will soon have the 65% beads and hopefully they'll work as good for me as everyone else and the days of headache will be gone.
