I was making my own BBQ sauce for a while, kinda stopped doing that.

Hot sauce, Emirl actually makes a good one. It is sweet and hot all at the same time.

All I use are Pimp Spices (http://www.worldwideelf.com/Pimpspice.html), ok not really, but thats funny

Hot suace is usually Tabasco or Frank's Red Hot.

BBQ is usually what's on sale. I do make my own for special ocassions tho. Should do it for all the time.

Tabasco Habanero is the only hot sauce thats worth a crap. If you want the flavor try Cholula's it has a wooden cap. It's not hot, but has tons of flavor. I put it on just about everthing.

For hot sauce, I like Tapatio the best.

For BBQ, I usually make my own marinade and then skip the sauce. When you guys say you make your own, do you mean from scratch or mixing a few & adding spices, etc.?

I usually start with tomato paste (or even ketchup) as the base and then move on from there by adding vinegar, sometimes mustard, maybe honey, possibly molassass or hoisin sauce, maybe some bourbon or rum, peppers (jalepeno or habenero), garlic, spices such as oregano cinnamon, nutmeg may be added too, and I can go on and on, but it depends on what flavor I'm looking for and/or what ingredients I have available.

Usually make my own bbq sauce using Woody's as a base. As far as hot sauce Cholula has a nice flavor but is too mild. For that type of sauce I like Tabasco or Tabasco Habanero. There used to be a Garlic Tabasco that had a nice flavor.

I make my own hot sauce whenever I can...growing up in Buffalo, it's kinda in my blood

If I'm in a pinch I like Frank's Red Hot and Uncle Brutha's Pepper Sauce

Is it hard to make your own?

jrohrer
12-10-2006, 11:55 PM
not really...it's pretty quick

I like my own, only because nowhere around where I am now has real sauce. A lot of places get their flavor and heat from pepper oils...which leaves wings real oily, not a real sauce.

My favorite wings of all time is Duff's in Buffalo (anchor bar is the original, Duff's is the best). Now that's a sauce, you pick up the wing and the sauce actually stays on it...not an oil running down your hand

caudio51
12-10-2006, 11:56 PM
Yea that oil is very messy and annoying

For hot sauce I like it hot hot: El Yucateco...you find it in alot of authentic mexican restaurants. It's basically habaneros, water and some spices. You can actually buy it at the Wal-Mart here. I'm not big on vinegar in my hot sauce.

For BBQ: If I'm too lazy to make my own I go with the same one Tripp goes with...Montgomery Inn. It is indeed very very good. But, I like to make my own in the summer from scratch.

Ditto.

I put it on everything. From eggs to steaks.

Got my son hooked on this stuff. Was lucky to find a "big" bottle, but went pretty fast. Expensive for the size.

Just picked up a bottle of Cheech's Smokin' Chipotle sauce from the local taco place (they sell hundreds of hot sauces). It's REAL good!!

'Cheech takes jalapeno, cayenne, tabasco and the fiery habanero (the hottest chile in the world) peppers together to age, then adds sweet molasses, sugar cane vinegar and a splash of rum to create a robust sauce that's smokin' hot. INGREDIENTS: Carrots, Onions, Jalapeno Peppers, Red Tabasco Peppers, Cayenne Peppers, Habanero Peppers, Molasses, Cane Vinegar, Lime Juice, Papaya, Glucose, Passion Fruit Juice, Garlic, Salt, Citric Acid, Starch, Sweet Basil, Natural Smoke Flavor & Rum.'

You can find it on the web for around 5 bucks.
