If you won the lottery for a substantial amount of money, would you keep your job? Discuss....

I would because I enjoy what I do and I wouldn't care if I got fired.

I would work less, or go into bussiness for myself. If I had a lot of money and free time, I would get into trouble.

well, i would open a Tobacco lounge.
with a store, bar, herf parlor, hot tub and sauna.
the bar would feature fine dancing girls.
the massage portion would offer multiple happy endings.

Gonz has got the right idea! :D I would probably do the same, I like my job but I wiuld probably find something that I truly and thoroughly enjoy and open up my own business. What better business than a cigar shop and lounge. Of course mine would probably have a secret door that would open only for special members leading to the room of forbidden fruit. I'd have a huge dude maybe named Angelo or Guido you'd have get by in order to enter, just for a little added security!

Hey I am in the process of retiring anyway (just over 1 year left) so I would be gone soooooo fast. I would open a cigar lounge.

I'd open up a smoke shop, or buy into one that is already established and customize it  And right next door I would open up my gunshop..

I like what I do, just not too crazy about the new management I do it for, so I probably wouldn't even pause to clean out my desk.
I'd probably put my toolbelt back on, hire a couple of carpenters and fix up old houses. No deadlines, no budgets. Maybe do some Habitat for Humanity or something. I couldn't just sit around.

I would not continue working with what I am doing now.. I would find something to do that gives me more satisfaction and stimulation.. I don't think I could face having a constant holidy year after year.. what would you then do for a holiday??

I would love being able to run a cigar business that didn't have to rely on earning heaps of money to sustain me.. like a cigar lounge ... were you didn't have to look at the financial liability of the business.. who cares if you make a profit or just broke even if you have more money than you need anyway?

Job, people really have them I thought that was just in stories told by parents to scare us.

I think when someone wins a huge lottery amount and they get in front of the camera and say," well I dont think I will quit my job"
They should have the money taken away from them and passed on to whomever came in second place.

Unless they are a highly skilled doctor or does charity work. But if you work a regular job like most of us......take the money and run.

I can imagine me winning 100 million dollars and going to work the next day. No I cant that ,would be absurd. " you want to buy a truck?
No..ok then get the hell out of here! That would be my sales pitch.

I think I'd still work, but I'm not sure I'd continue with my current job - too many hours/stress.

I would have to keep working. More than 2 days off and I get bored. I would like to think that I would learn a new trade, like woodworking, and make that my new "job".

Restoring old cars would be cool too.

In reality, hitting the powerball at it's lowest would net you around 5-6 million. Average modest income is between $30k-$40k( Printing ), 5-6 million would only buy me 10-12 years of living at my current lifestyle.

I wouldn't even hesitate for a second to retire right then and there.

I'd travel the entire world, I'd have the largest collection of cigars this side of Hong Kong, I'd spend boatloads of time with family and friends, I'd have a few children and I'd probably visit the Playboy Mansion....before having the aformentioned children.

I'd quit my job in a hearbeat.

I think if I won the lottery that I would get an education in business management. Then I would open up MAN LAND. It would be of course a gun shop and range, a cigar shop, lounge and bar, and a scuba shop. The gun shop and scuba shop would be open from 10 am to 8 pm and would definately have a very friendly staff. I hate shops that have jerks behind the counter. The cigar shop would be open at 10 am and would close when the bar did at 2 am. However, the bar would not open till 8pm. No alcohol and firearms in my establishment. Of course all of this would be after a month or two in Fiji. Diving, smoking, and other things.:devilhead

I would work just enough to keep my benefits, and I would ask my financial planner to mangage as much as possible, so that I didn't blow everything in a year or two. I wouldn't open a cigar shop, but I would hang out at one a whole hell of a lot more.

I'd finish getting my teaching degree but instead of jumping straight into teaching after my History BA, I'd shoot for my masters in Anthropology as well so I could teach History, Anthro, and Humanities at the college level.
I'd also do alot more commissioned leatherwork on the side.

Yeah, I'd keep working at the same job. Of course, I'd have bought the company and fired my boss, but I'd still be working at the same job.

Financial Idenpendence is when you can do what you want to do and not what you have to.

I can think of a lot of things I would like to do and showing up at my job is not one of them.

Ooops...uh...it was late..yeah, that's it! it was late and uh...my dog aaaaaaate my calculator...yeah...that's right! It was late and my dog ate my calculator!

I guess 5 million dineros would keep me happy for 10-15 years at my current wish-list lifestyle.

I'd call in on permanent sick leave (I'm taking that no matter what). I may or may not go back to collect anything I left at work. Whatever's there can be replaced. I'd keep the friends though.

I would have to keep working. My wife has chronic pancreatitis and has to have stints replaced about every 4-6 months. At this rate i would be broke without insurance.

I'd quit in a heatbeat. I like my job but I'd like being retired better!!

I'd probably eventually start some sort of business of my own eventually.

All depends on the amount of money. Given enough, I'd just not show back up...well, maybe for my pictures, but that's it. I could find things to keep me busy, Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo problem.

I would quit my current job that day.

I might work or volunteer part-time at various places for something to do but I would have no problem not working ever again.

I would be out shopping for Hookers, Strippers, Live In Nannies, Hemingways, and fast cars....

I think i would keep mine because I do enjoy working on the trucks that I do. However, you can bet I won't be so concerned about keeping it and speak up on the stupidity of management on projects a little more.

I'd buy a big sailboat, stock it, and send out postcards to everyone I knew saying "Good bye, When I get back from my around the world cruise, I may get in touch with you."

I wouldn't be a total jerk though, I would send pictures back to everyone. :D
