Is this true?

I was poking through Ebay, my smoking pal wants to invest in his own Humidor, He is probably going to get a travel one like mine, but anyway to the point. Whilst looking at traditional style humidors we found this under one product description:

In order to provide savings for our customers and get the same value, portions of our humidor interior are made of cedar wood. Once the humidor is closed everything inside is sealed. The cedar smell will remain in the box giving positive effect on the flavor of your cigars. Therefore there is no need to make the inside of the humidor completely of cedar. If you research cigar humidors, there is no 100% cedar humidor. All manufacturers use the same method to make their humidors. The reason our prices are much better than other sellers is because we have our own manufacturer and make our own products. We also sell our humidors to few of biggest retail chain stores in United States and Europe.

Now i am just a newb, but I thought they were supposed to be made entirely out of spanish cedar and that it was more to do with the moisture than the cedar smell? Am I confused or is this a cheapo bs awnser?

Spanish cedar is in the mohagony wood family. It is mold, mildew, and warp resistant. This wood family helps regulate the RH better than another other type of wood. The cedar helps with beetles as they do not like the smell. Just the inside of the humidor needs to be lined with this wood family, not the entire box. Hope that helps ye.

Ooops, this is the Ask Ron section but I believe you have the answer.

They are not lying about the Spanish Cedar as a liner, just making a sales pitch on why to buy their product.

So this is correct? the inside just needs to be made mostly of cedar? Or the inside needs to be entirely of cedar and the box itself can be made from anything?

That is a glass top humidor so that will not be cedar is maybe what they mean. The rest of the humidor made of wood should be lined with the cedar. Never hurts to ask them what they mean by the statement above.

I have not had good luck with the humidors I've found on ebay. All of them have had seal issues. You may end up having seal issues around those 3 glass panes as well. A little silicoln sealant can fix that though.

Just make sure the silicone is completely cured before seasoning your box.

My .02

I actualy think spanish cedar is more myth than requirement any more unless you like the flavor it imparts on your cigars which I do. My understanding is during their time it was a good choice due to it's ability to regulate humidity without warping or cracking and mostly it's natural ability to repel insects like cigar bettles. Today beeds will control the humidity and if you're worried about bettles keep it in an air conditioned space at reasonable temps and you'll be fine.

if you are on ebay, or anywhere else selling a cheap humidor, its all about the same quality. Just stick with a company that has high ratings in customer service, and that will happily accept a return if you are not satisfied.
