V Cut

In all the years that I have smoked cigars, I had never used a V cutter. Well, I decided to sell them, so I figured I might as well try a V cutter out. Damn, I like them. My $2 cutter worked perfectly, and the cigar smoked like a dream. You cant beat that. Oh yeah, the cigar was a nicely aged Private Stock Robusto complete with yellow cello.

I share the same experience with you. I just recently tried the V-cut; I like them too!...Possibly better than the guillotine cuts/punch cuts. I love how the V-cut allows most of the cap that extends to the wrapper untouched, yet still provides a great amount of smoke through draw permitting. This fact is perfect for me, because there have been plenty of the times (sadly) when I used my guillotine cutter and accidentally cut too much off, thus making the wrapper unravel which is definitely horrible. It seems that I lack that skill of guillotine cutting.

*I had the strong urge to pick up a Private Stock today as well! By far, Private Stocks has a great aroma to them.

Private Stocks are "seconds" of the Davidoff brand. I understand that it is not a "Second" rolled cigar, but rather leaf that did not make the final grade. But you are getting Davidoff quality leaf. I am not a Davidoff fan because of the prices, but if you like a mild to medium cigar, I think that these Private Stocks are a pretty good deal.

A great cut, especially for a new cigar smoker that is scared of the guillotine and getting it right. My local B&M has a full size Boston cigar cutter that I use from time to time for the fun of using the thing. I will check your site and pick one of these up as I lost mine years ago, a very cool cutter.

i always understood that the cats eye was kind of like a v cut, but a little more of an oval shape. but i also see them spoke about as the same. Honestly, I am not sure.

I've got an old german cutter that will do two sizes as a guillotine or one as a v cut.

also doubles as a box opener... the only thing i ever use it for is for the v-cut occasionally... it's a fun tool, and the cut is good.

Glad that you like the V Cut. There is a difference between the regular V Cut and a Cats Eye cut. I bought the Boston V Cutter about 10 years ago and love this thing. It cuts a swath into the head of the cigar that is oval,,like a cats eye. A regular V Cut will cut straight across the head. What I like about the Cat's Eye V Cut is that it goes deeper into the head of the cigar and keeps your tongue from trying to pry into the cut and getting too wet. It makes it easier to draw on the cigar in my opinion because a regular guillotine cutter only takes about 1/8 of inch of the head when you cut. A good cats eye cut goes far deeper into the head and lets you draw on the cigar a bit better. I've tried every cutter out there and I always come back to the V Cut Cats Eye.

What's that Ron... old dog new tricks? I find that a V-cutter works well on most but pointed head figuardos; however, on 60rg and larger it won't cut deep enough and a 10mm punch is a better choice.

Don't let a figurado or torpedo keep you from using a V Cut. I cut every kind of cigar with a V cut and found that these types of cigars actually smoke better with this cut. A bigger RG like a 56 on up are pretty hard to cut with a V,,,unless you buy one of the bigger Boston Cutters. That sucker will put a V cut on a baseball bat.
