Default LG Small Batch 4 and Oscuro Comparison

When I read here that Litto was going to be releasing another LG Small Batch, and an oscuro at that, it was exciting new to me as I've loved the previous releases. I've let the SB IV Oscuro rest along side the previous SB IV rest in my humidor for a couple of weeks to be ready for review. Hope the comparison is worthwhile, thanks for reading.

    SB4.JPG

    LG Small Batch 4
Construction-Great deep colorado brown color and firm throughout with a nice cap
Burn/Draw-Even burn with a great draw
Flavor/Aroma-great complexity and finish;Full bodied and full flavor
    1/3-cedar,chocolate, spice, pepper, sweetness, leather
    2/3-same,intensity builds
3/3-same,intensity continues to build but remains balanced
    Burn time-3hrs
Overall 9.3/10- A great cigar; complex, great aroma, finish and balanced.

    Oscuro.JPG

    LG Small Batch 4 Oscuro
Construction-Great rich oscuro color and firm throughout with a nice cap, no issues here.
Burn/Draw-Even burn with a great draw, again no issues here.
Flavor/Aroma-starts out Med-Full ends up Full strength, medium flavor throughout
    1/3-wood,cocao, bitter chocolate,sweet cream,trace nuttiness
    2/3-same, a little harshness developing
3/3-a slight mint emerges and pepper, more harshness
    Burn time-3hrs
Overall-8.4/10- A real disappointment to me, was surprised how muted the flavors were in comparison. Hopefully time will bring out its potential goodness, it has for the 1-3 and I expect the 4. But it has a long way to go as the previous started out as such good cigars.

Great comparison review WB. I would have to agree with you on this although, I got more cedar favors on the Oscuro.

Have to agree with you WB overall did not love the Oscuro...I got a good bit of cedar flavor off it as Matt did.

Thanks for the comparison...very helpful. Was on the fence about the Oscuros, but I think I'll pass.

I was at a shop last week and they had the LG Small Batch 4. I just could not pull the trigger as they were $19. What prices are you seeing in your area? I'm just a poor college student with four kids

    $19 is about right Plush.

Nice review Warren! Personally, I can't help but think the Oscuro might be a little green right now. When I first smoked the regular #4 ROTT I wasn't impressed, but the one I had recently was great. Hope the same will be said about the Oscuro because Litto has some damn good Oscuro wrapper!

I was on the fence too. Thanks for the review.

I recently had the small batch #3 and could retrohale with no burn. If you've got any of these, they are ready to smoke.

I haven't had one yet (just got some, will try one soon). But I agree that LFDs tend to age really well. I'm a big fan of the Factory Press line, and those get significantly better with age as well. I had a IV last week, and it was good and currently ready to smoke, but they'll get better I'm sure. The SB3 is fantastic now ... and I just got my first SB2 which I plan to light up next week
