Right now we use the Wii to stream Netflix and I mainly play black ops on it.

I decided to upgrade this Christmas. I think PS3 is the way to go for me because my tv is full 1080p HD and I want to play games in HD, stream Netflix in HD and use the PS3's blue ray player. It would bump me up to HD for everything.

Question, when reading the Modern Warfare thread seems like most people are using Xbox for gaming, is Xbox the better gaming console?

Thanks All

I am all about PS3, I depends who you ask but I dont like XBOX for many reasons, first of all it is as loud as an VOLVO 240 from mid 70:S, and the fact that you have to pay to be able to play online is just BS.

Playstation you get great SONY quality and you have controls that can be recharged. If I am not wrong this is not included with XBOX.

Imho you can get a better machine than the PS3.

I started with an Xbox 360 and then bought a ps3. Personally for me I never owned a play station before the ps3, so it was a new learning experience. I had owned a original Xbox so that learning curve was slight. I guess it really depends on your previous console ownership as far as thR gaming aspect. On paper the ps3 kills, as far as preference though, Xbox still hangs up a the top.

I have both and I play my 360 way more but its all in preference on what you consider to be better. I personally like the controls for xbox better than playstation just way they feel in your hand. Yeah you pay 50 bucks for a year on xbox live but that's where I like to play all my 1st person shooters. Racing games and other styles I play on my playstation.

I have a PS3 I rarely if ever play video games though. I use it for bluray primarily. Unless they came out with a blu-ray player add on for xbox then you'd be out of luck I think. Last I looked into a gaming system was when I bought this PS3 back in 2007 when there was the HD video disc battle occurring.

From what I've heard they are working on the xbox 720 and it will have blu ray.

I've been a PS3 owner for just over 4 years now. Love it.
--Full HD
--Blu-Ray player that gets constant updates
--Up-converts regular DVDs to look awesome
--The reliability of the console itself is very high, as opposed to the XBOX 360 (something like 80% of XBOX owners will end up with a broken console at some point ... seriously, the numbers are that high)
--FREE ONLINE PLAY

These things and more make it a fantastic all-around home theater piece even if you're not much of a gamer. Also consider that Blu-ray discs (movies or games) do not scratch as easily as DVDs, which is a big factor if you're not super careful with your stuff or if you have kids.

But for games, it's awesome. What you need to consider with games is basically 2 things:

1) Do you play a LOT online? If you do, it might be a tougher choice. There is a larger online community for XBOX, but there are also a lot more little kids. So you could argue XBOX is a better online console because of more people, but for me it's much worse because I don't want to play with a bunch of 11-year-olds swearing at me CONSTANTLY (seriously, constantly). You get some of that with the PS3, of course, but less. So even though I play online a lot, the PS3 was my choice

2) Exclusive games. I like the PS3's exclusives better than the XBOX, but those are good too. The Uncharted series and the God of War series are some of the best games of al time, period (yes, so are Halo and Gears of War, but I prefer the others), and there are other great PS3 exclusives as well.

Beyond this, most games are multi-platform these days, and while people will argue over which system is better for certain games, it's true 90% of the time that there is not a ton of difference, and if there is the PS3 is usually a little better just because it has so much more horsepower graphics-wise (the 360 does make good use if what it has under the hood, though, whereas the PS3 games thus far haven't tapped it's full potential).

PS3 Fan! Never had an X-BOX, but so far very happy with my PS3, I've had it since 2007 and it hasn't skipped a beat. I use it to watch all movies, and I rent about once a week. The only issue I have is the netflix menu was not user friendly, I ended up putting items in my que from the computer in order to watch on my PS3.

I am a PS3 guy. Problem I have with xbox is all the little kids that end up on there. It happens on PS3 also but just not nearly as much.

And this is due to the fact that xbox has groups (pro, family, underground etc..) parents allow kids to play any game they like and don't bother to place them in the right group or monitor them. However if you report them they will get banned and have to start all over.

Not doubting you on this one, since I have never owned a PS3. But wouldn’t one assume that since the Xbox has a paid membership that there would be even more kids running around on it? Since a lot of parents would not want to pay the extra $50 a year for the membership.

Again, never owned a PS3, just more or less thinking out loud.

One thing that made me buy the Xbox was the controller. I'm not a fan of the PS controllers. Never have been. (I actually really liked the Duke for the original Xbox when it came out, I KNOW I’m in the minority on that one). But the Xbox controller just seems to fit my hand better,

I used to think the "free" online play on PS3 was an advantage over the Xbox, but it's not. Most new games have online pass codes anyway, so if you're a used game buyer like me, you're still going to pay for online pay in some way in the future on the PS3 too.

You get what you pay for holds up here. Xbox players pay less than $1/week to play but have an online platform that works much better (chat, messaging, friend invites, IMO better stability & less lag, exclusives, games tend to release on xbox first). So when you consider it, it's not all the expensive and you're getting your money's worth even if you play just a little bit.

With that said, I'm a PS3 gamer. Mainly because my family & friends were on PS3 so I joined them. I would ask around and see if you have people to play with/against and what they use and go from there.

Thanks all! I think the PS3 is still going to be the one for me.

I have to kinda sell it as a blueray player to the Mrs. all the while looking to game the crap out of it.

It really is everyones own personal preferance.

I have both and i use the xbox everyday.

The ps3 i have is the original backward compatible one and i have about 8 hrs use on it.

To me nothing beats the 360.

Xbox here. I don't use any platforms to stream, I have a Roku for that (http://www.roku.com/). My feeling is gaming consoles are too expensive to burn out streaming and the Roku is under a $100 for 1080p (mute point since most online services only do 720 now).

Also, I am a first person shooter guy and find the game selection a bit better on the xbox.

Lastly, after the recent Sony security fail, i will gladly pay MS $50 a year if they keep the network up, available, and secure.

All that said buy both ;)

I love my Xbox 360 but the PS3 is a great machine as well. Personally, I can't stand the controller of the PS3. If I got one and I switched to an Xbox-like gamepad, I'd be just as happy. Plus the Blu-ray and free online gaming would be a plus.

The PS3 is a more powerful system, has free on line game play (on line player chat can easily be muted),on line game play is no more spotty then X-box live (I have never had an issue getting into games, friends who have x-box live say their is no real difference, has a blu-ray player (which is rated one of the best because Sony put their best blu-ray eye in the PS3), X-box has had the famous red eye of of death in millions of their systems(meaning the system died), most systems all have the same games, except for a few titles, one great title PS3 has for kids that Xbox doesn't is Little Planet Big World. I am not a fan boy of either system as others have stated so this is an un-biased opinion.

If you are looking to get the most reliable, cheapest cost of ownership, and the most features the PS3 is the best way to go.

360.

For people that like to play competitively, it draws a larger (and seemingly better) crowd. I also like the controller far better lol
