Think the most I have paid for a cigar is around $30ish for a Forbidden X and the same for a Padron 80th Maduro, enjoyed both of them with the Forbidden being phenominal and the Padron seeming a bit overpriced. I think $30 is about as high as I will go as far as price and even then I am a little apprehensive and usually wait on the reviews before considering spending the coin.

Cigars like the CGR, despite the raving reviews, don't interest me in the slightest at $100 a stick.

BHK 52. I don't think so. Not that it was a bad cigar, but there are ones I like better available for less.
Me too. And I agree with your assessment. I also smoked one of those Fuente Anniversarios (the one with grandpapa fuente on the label). I think those were more expensive than BHK, but not sure. It was a gift, and a very good cigar, but I'd never fork it over for either of these cigars again.

The most I'll spend is in the 20 dollar range, unless I have a rare oppurtunity at a cc like a 1492 or some authentic, extremely old Dunhill.

I was gifted a Behike and can't remember if it was a 52 or 54, but did I enjoy it? You betcha. I think part of it was that I smoked it when we got moved back into our house after the twister, but it was still pretty good. Would I buy another one...probably not. They're good, but price wise they're not something I would have in the humidor regularly. I agree with Marty that you generally get what you pay for. I wouldn't expect a $2.00 smoke to rock my world. But just because they're more expensive doesn't mean that they are better. There are some great cigars that aren't going to break your wallet (Padron x000 comes to mind). I also think that there is a point at which you aren't necessarily getting more quality for your dollar. Some smokes are more expensive due to the rarity of the smoke and then you're not paying the extra because the cigar is any better, but because of the exclusivity.

Some are worth the money that are charged for them, some are not (and this is obviously a personal opinion):

Worth it:
Partagas Reserva
Cohiba Gran Reserva
(Just about any) Cuban Dunhill
Tatauje Pork Tenderloin (if buying on open market)

Not Worth It:
OR Cohiba Behike (2006)
(Just about any) Cuban Davidoff
(Just about any) NC Davioff
(Any) Lost City
(Just about any) Clear Havana (although they are cool to smoke)

I have smoked Dunhills, davidoffs, CGR, and tons of expensive smokes. My answer to whether they are worth is always no. No cigar is ever really that much better to be worth $100 or more. With that some of the best cigars I have ever had are in that range so I keep buying them knowing they are not worth it. I have smoked a recent monte 4 that was on or with any cigar I have ever tried. Sometimes just the experience of smoking a rare cigar is enough for me even of the cigar doesn't wow me. Not sure why but it works.

Have had mixed luck with Cuban davidoff's. Some were flat and well past their prime but couple of years ago smoked a chateaux latour that was at least tied for best cigar I have ever smoked. I lit it early in the morning while driving and almost had to pull over as it was too distracting. Last trip to Cuba i took a 5000 and the last half dozen i had smoked were getting worse and worse but a few days back in it'a own climate and it was amazing. Have smoked early Dunhills that we're flat as well. May have been storage issues I am not sure
At have had storage issues and were flat as well. Last trip

I think most of the Davidoffs I have smoked have had storage issues, no doubt....or are just past their prime...Still looking for that Cuban Davidoff to wow me! :)

This thread got me thinking (scary). I recently bought a box each of the Serie B GOF (maduro and sungrown), and a fiver of Padron 85th maduro. I've tried one of each. All three are right around $20 and change.

They are all very good. There is no way, however, that value-wise, these cigars are worth double the price of a Tat Brown, a T52, or an Epernay. Ain't happenin'.

Like some have already stated, I think there is a "diminishing return" point with premium and/or expensive smokes.

Will I keep buying them? Yup. Cuz I'm a sucker :)

Edit: I also bought a fiver of LG SB 4 recently. They're around $20 each as well. I don't count those though, because they are so damn huge that it's like getting two stogies for $10 each

Cohiba Behike 54 for me....which ran me approx $38. I think I've said this before, and pretty much agree with consensus thus far, it's hard to justify spending that kinda coin on something that ultimately ends up in a pile of ash. Yes, it was good (great even), and I'm glad I have more....but don't think I'd buy more any time soon.

Although the Behike 52 prices have been dropping, soooo.....

Mostly though, I stick in the $7-10/range and I'm perfectly happy with those. Once $50-100 smokes start "finishing you off"....well....that's when I'll consider spending that type of cash..
