we really had to go with putting them all in tins huh ?

me thinks short filler smokes are best applied when lent to skinny mid 30 ring old school sizes.

or are panetela, carlota, cadete or seaone shapes too much too cc for the nc business world ???

most def in for a tin myself though :)

Thanks for the insight, Steve. While I share joliet's perception of short filler cigars in general, I understand what you've written and will try to keep my doubts in check until I try it.

I am, however, a little mystified and sometimes bothered by the hype and scarcity (and resulting prices) of many of your products lately. I know it isn't really logical to blame you for being a 'victim of your own successes', but my opinions aren't always completely logical. I do appreciate the quality cigars and incredible knowledge sharing that you and JD bring to our community - not just here on BOTL, but universally. I just wish that I could get a T52 when I want one....and get it for around 8 bucks or so.

I'll definitely give them a go, love the size. I think a lot of people just think that $6 for any short filler cigar at a size this small is unheard of, thus the reasons many will be opposed to it. It's cool this is a step up with the resorting of the leaves and all, but at the end of the day, many won't get past the fact it is short fill aka "scrap" tobacco no matter how many times it is sorted. Also, with all the premium long filler small cigars available, like the Tatuaje Petite Cazadore at $4.50 for example, many can't personally justify spending more for a sandwich style cigar.

This post isn't meant as a knock on the cigar, I just can see both sides of it. I am looking forward to trying it out and basing my decission on my enjoyment of the cigar. I hope this thread can stay civilized....

I hope they are fantastic. It will have to live up to the Unico name. I have a great feeling about them though. Drew Estate would never put them out without them being up to par.

Are they only going to be sold in the tins, or are we expecting retailers to open them up? I might consider grabbing one, but there is zero chance I would drop $24 to see if this was a magical short filler that acted like no other short filler ever has. Flavor is flavor, but at any price-I want a cigar I can light in my truck and not plan on wearing.

The price does scare me a little bit, but with how great the LP's have been treating me lately, I'll have no problem picking up a tin of these.

i am not going to chase this, but if $6 gets me a little under an hour of enjoyment, i am down with that.

also, these are the people known for making crazy isht work, and work WELL. benefit of the doubt until they are smoked?

I'm definitely looking forward to trying the cigar. Like Daddy Mac stated, I can see both sides of the story and the price point discussion is interesting and can see JFire's point.

Spicy? Peppery? Count me in. Those flavors are right up my alley.

I could care less that it's six bucks. I trust the makers of Liga Privada to put out a quality, tasty smoke.

Why because short filler cigars are made with trimmmings from other LPs that the consumer has "paid 4" in essentially another cigar. Also most of the time it's a bitch to smoke short filled cigars due to spitting out small pieces of tobacco after a regular cut. And like many others I won't punch cut a cigar due to the fact that many tar up because of the decreased opening at the head. Do your thing JD and Saka but every member here will probably give u the most straight up answer up front then anywhere else. At 6 bucks or higher it's just "not in my wheelhouse" .
Regards,
Jfire.
I hear you Jfire - fwiw, whether you are paying for it in the original cigar or not depends on the factory, the cigar in question and how the factory can utilize the table cuts.

Up until now, all the LP trimmings have been expensed to Liga Privada as we had no reasonable way to cash recover their costs in any meaningful way. As costs have been going up dramatically making LPs, mostly from our having to buy so much more tobacco that nets us a lesser than reasonable yield of uber-premium LP worthy leaf in our attempt to meet demand, our coming up with Papas Fritas is a way for us to try to slow the increasing cost curve that will not sacrifice the quality of the primary product.

Fwiw, we position head filler in the bunch in a special way so as to reduce the bits of tobacco that enter the mouth because we don't like that either - it is another thing that makes this tripa corta different. However, it you really chew on it you are likely to still get some.

In the end, I honestly don't know if this will be a good idea or whether it will become a viable seller. The handmade cigar business is a crazy business and while I would like to believe that when Lew Rothman said I "probably got a better grasp of the industry on the whole than anyone else I know" is true, I know in my heart that there is more that I don't know than I do know.

However, I do believe that JD and myself (and really everyone at DE) always do our best to always be straightforward and sincere when we talk to our fellow cigar smokers both online and in person.

I gotta stop looking at this thread and go get some work done - thanks guys.

BR,

Steve

Thanks CMac, I just spit out my cigar laughing.

For me, short filler, mixed or long; if the price/enjoyment is right I'll be smoking them.

$6 for a short filler PC? No thanks. The list of cigars that cost the same or less than that are phenomenal, I don't need to overpay for the left overs of other cigars.

Let's see, Boli PC, Monte #4 and #5, Tons of Parti's, H Upmann PC, HDM LHDP/LHDM/Palmas/etc, ALL Por Larranaga's, tons of RyJ's, and even the Trinidad Reyes is the same price, and that's not even close to the entire list, nor even NC's. I might also add, those are all long filler, if that matters to you.

Liga @ $6? Hell ya. A good smoke is a good smoke in my book, and I've never met a Liga I didn't like. Excites for this.
