My Dad lives in a small town in Northern California, and a few weeks ago he was the victim of a home invasion robbery.

A group of three guys beat an old man, and to steal a whopping $2700 worth of stuff.

He has had reconstructive surgery already, and will have to have more in the future, but he is not out if the woods. His independence may also be gone due to having trouble seeing.

It is all ridiculous, and sad, and has made for a surreal holiday.

Please keep him in your thoughts.

Sorry to hear all of this. It is never easy to deal with all of these things, but is especially hard during the holidays!!

Our thoughts and prayers are with you, your family, and your dad!

Awful, prayers coming. We were robbed a few months after we bought our house but luckily, we werent home. It took months to start feeling somewhat normal and still, a few years later, I feel uncomfortable at times. The most important thing they stole was our peace of mind because everything else could be replaced. I hope he can recover and start to get back to normal as best he can. Maybe a good idea to get a dog which may deter future burgulars.

Man, I'm sorry to hear this. My thoughts are with your father. The holidays bring out some serious scum. Hopefully they will be apprehended. Hang in there brother.

We read of this kind of thing too many times and it just gives us a moment for a reality check....my heart goes out to you because it is a surreal time esp. when the victim is someone you are so close to..your Dad. So many questions whirl around in your mind..why...how could something this awful happen to such an innocent person...victimization and so on. The good news is that time will heal his wounds or most of them and you are still blessed to have him. Secondly there is now a responsibility to ensure that he not be a victim again and that is where your family will have to deal with this and try to fix it so that he and the rest of you can get back to your normal lives..if possible. For those of us who have living older relatives there is a calling for another layer of responsibility...protection and there are systems in place for older people to wear those devices and have in place in case of catastrophic instances of health, robberies, etc. My parents are gone but one thing that always made me think of them is that if I can't be there then at least get something to where they have a layer of safety around them....hidden security cameras ( these are cheap now days) and emergency necklaces for them to press in case of something that happens. Being proactive is the smart thing esp. for our loved ones who do live alone and want to keep their independence for as long as they can. Call them and check on them...put security lights and signage around their homes...do whatever possible to let them know that somebody cares and is taking steps to help them.

I hate hearing when these things happen. I hope your dad is ok. Just be there for him and give him all the support he needs.
