I purchased a box of these several days ago from JR Cigar because they were giving a free Oasis XL with a box purchase (which I was going to be buying anyway). They have only been in my humidor for a few days but I decided to light one up tonight.
It took some work to get the foot to light evenly and the cigar burned uneven a couple of times which I straightened out with a torch lighter. Probably will burn more evenly after some more time in the humidor.

The first part of the cigar was a bit bitter but eventually had some pleasant caramel tastes to it. Not a whole lot of depth of flavors, and every once in a while the taste got harsh and bitter again - not terrible but not pleasant. I would describe this cigar as medium to full bodied. I'll be letting these sit for another 6 months at least before I try another one. Hopefully with time they will improve.

They aren't really dog rocket bad - There were times that the cigar was decent - but just as I was starting to enjoy it I'd get hit with another blast of bitterness. I really think these things will improve with some aging - I doubt they'll ever have a whole lot of depth though.

Dan, my experience with that cigar was very similar...periods of decentness interspersed with momentary harsh blasts of bitterness. Overall, I'd call it a turd.

Oh, but it should be pointed out that if I were in the market for an Oasis, I'd have jumped all over the deal you got. The cigars are definately better than the average yard 'gar, and you could proudly hand them out to your mooching friends.

:stretchgr Exactly my plan!! I have one friend especially that always wants a cigar when he comes over (never smokes them otherwise) and can't tell a swisher sweet from an opus x.

I agree with the win man. Don't make a quick judgement on the cigars. If it was shipped wet then what you say makes sense. It would be a bad burn and bitter due to you lemon faced draw on the cigar. Let it sit properly humidified for a month or two then try it. Then decide if deserves the mooch category.

I agree with alot of what you say. I've found in general that most cigars that don't burn properly do much better after a few months humi time. The biterness thing- we'll just have to wait and see, my guess is that they will lose that bitterness after several months in the humidor. The cigar that I smoked and rated here didn't seem overly wet and the draw was easy but regardless, time should help. I'll post back on this thread in about 6 months and give an update as to how they're smoking then.

Is this the one you're talking about?

If so, I rather like them. I've had several over the last year or so, and I've been fortunate that I've only had one that didn't make me happy (it was noticeably dry, I shouldn't have lit it)

With a little time to sit in a proper environment and get 'just right' they're very enjoyable.

Now, here's the weird part - I've found 2 variations of these cigars. Labels look similar, but not exactly. The one with the gold lettering on the black label is the one that I've enjoyed more. I've had a couple with a more plain band, but the same verbage on a similar label, and I didn't like them quite as well. The outward appearance, size and build is similar between the two. The 'different' one is what Sheep had a couple of weeks ago, and it wasn't all that great.

I'll swing by and pick up one of the others this evening, before meeting up with y'all. You can try it and let me know what you think. I'm telling ya, there's two distinct variations of this cigar.
