  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Pipes and coffee. Oh my.

So I have been smoking cigars for a few years now but have always enjoyed them in the evening with the occasional mid day smoke. I read a lot about folks enjoying a cigar with a cup of coffee in the morning, but to me I have just not craved a cigar in the early morning.

Now, I have recently taken up piping and started to enjoy a smoke in the car on the way to work (after dropping the kids off) and thoroughly enjoy the relaxation and beard note I am left with throughout the day. But, the most amazing part of it has been what it does to my mug of coffee in the morning. I don't know how to describe it but it takes my 1 mug of good strong coffee to another level. Not sure how to describe it but after every couple of sips of the pipe I take a swig of coffee and am greeted with the most glorious mouth coating flavors. Best way I can describe it is the way coffee tastes after a bite of a good greasy hashbrown and/or sausage. It is truly sublime.

Just though I would share for anyone who hasn't put these two together yet.

Only had a few blends out of the bulk jars at my local shop (Battle of Franklin, Front Porch). Those two are red ribbon virginia based (they said one was 1Q but the lady wasn't super confident in that so not sure). I also have Vanilla Black Cav but only had it once and wasn't a fan. I also have a burly based called night cap but not sure if it is anything close to the dunhill version and haven't fired it up yet. I will be trying it soon though.

@rdomfoto - I cracked up at your mistype picturing your avatar with a pipe sticking out of one side of your mouth and a cigar out the other. I got what you meant though.

Ok, tried another blend with my coffee and didn't quite get the same result. It was my local shops "front porch" so not sure exactly what it was but I think it doesn't have as much virginia in it and may have some burley. Still got some of the effect but nothing like what I get with the other blend ("Battle of Franklin" which I think is 1Q).

Love coffee with my pipe/cigar but hate having my coffee cooling off. FF to buying a Yeti and happy days are here . I usually don't believe the hype of thermo products but this sucker is for real. I FP a 20 ounce cup and an hour later it's still hot and I'm done with my pipe or cigar...as hot as it was when it was brewed. ..gotta love science.

I know someone one here who takes his EMP with a cup o joe quite regular...
I like a pipe with coffee too, preferable a nice robust Nicaraguan bean med/dark.

@Cigary43 , I do believe the Yeti's are what they say they are, however, for $12 at Walmart I got a Contigo mug that does the same thing. It insulates so well I have to put some cold water in with my coffee so I don't have to wait 5 hours to drink it.

One rule of Marketing is that the first to go to market is usually not the best (although yeti may be) and never the cheapest (Yeti certainly is not).

Lol....for sure and I actually have the Contigo...as well as about 12 other types of insulated, coffee cups that are decent enough. ..but the Yeti has been working a bit better than the rest I got the 22 ounce one for $25 at REI with a 15% discount ...even at that price it's a bit high. It's guaranteed so if it should ever fail I get my money back .
