Cigars After a Run or Workout

Recently I decided to start running to lose weight after I realized no one was standing on the weight scale with me. After a run, I like to relax in the back yard with a cigar and a cup of coffee. I like stronger sticks and never had a problem with the nicotine strength (in fact, occasionally when I'm out drinking with a cigarette smoker, I'll have a cigarette with him and enjoy the buzz).
Recently, after a hard 3 mile run (I'm not in shape yet), I sat down with a coffee and had a Tat Cojonu (the CBL version). I didn't realize it until after I was done, but I got pretty sick. It was the first time that had ever happened to me and caught me by surprise.
Today, another 3 mile run and halfway thru my MFLB, I started to feel nauseous and had to slow down. I even ate a small meal after the run just to be safe. This is a stick I've had many many times, and have never felt anything of the sort. Anyway, my question is, have any of you experienced this? I don't really like lighter sticks so am hoping it's not a problem that will last. Does coffee make it worse?
I enjoy a buzz from the rare cigarette when I'm drinking, but the nicotine feeling from a cigar is different and does not seem enjoyable. Maybe I like it when I'm drinking Scotch/bourbon, but I'm not sure.

FYI, I smoke about 2 cigars a week... 3 on a good week. I don't inhale any of it.

I'm not a doctor, but I do know both nicotine and caffeine are stimulants. May not be a noticable effect, but if you've already elevated your heart rate, this could slow down recovery time. I don't know what you mean by "after a run" but I'd wait a bit. Also, nicotine is known to increase the blood's clotting factor (learned this the hard way ), so the potential to throw a clot increases. Not saying you shouldn't do it (I'm the last guy to give anti smoking anti coffee lectures) but I'd allow adequate time to cool down and recover befoe firing up.

I run to help keep the spare tire down. You should see results. I do it in the AM before work. 3 or 4x a week. I also cut down on the sugar. Fuck the donuts and breads too.

I wouldn't dream of having a full cigar after a workout. The only thing you're going to accomplish is your coffin will be 20lbs lighter. If you know what I mean.
By all means, enjoy your AM constitutional. But in reality, if you want a better body, first you have to listen to it. The run or the smoke needs to be moved to later in the day.

Other factors can be attributed as well. If the cigars are impacting you stronger than usual after run it's because the sugar in your body is being burned and used as energy. I had the same problem when I work out and I come home and have a cigar or if I'm on an empty stomach or him if I've been fasting. What you eat something with sugar in it to replenish your glycogen stores then you'll be good. Think post workout

So, I did some light research on this and it turns out that it's a combination of being sugar depleted and your heart working harder after a workout (like you guys said)... So I won't be doing that again (I knew it was something external as I've never had a problem with strong cigars before). Anyway, it's too bad because I always thought I'd celebrate my first marathon with a cigar.

Fun fact I learned while doing my research : Michael Jordan smoked a cigar before even home game on his drive to the stadium.
So weird, I feel so relaxed after a cigar that I couldn't imagine doing it before a run or workout!

When I had my extremely brief "career" (read: hopes and dreams smashed into dust lol) as a professional athlete (read: wanna-be pro bowler) I tried every non-drug induced form of relaxation I could find before entering a tournament. I was off cigars at the time. But I can tell you it would have really put me in a relaxed, focused mood.

I smoke cigars while I'm playing basketball with the kids (not even kidding.) Takes some talent to dribble put the cigar in your mouth and then shoot.

I am the opposite. I mean i may be focused and chill but get a digger or a chapter ii in me and i wanna powerlift for some reason. I am still chill but I start having this energy.

You can still have the marathon cigar champ! Just get a fast digesting sugar like a dextrose in you system. The key is a high glycemic index carb. After a marathon you body will be needing that sugar even not having a cigar so have a gatorade and a banana or a weight gainer after your run on the way home. After about 15-30 light up brother!

Bingo its your glycogen being depleted and the cigar dropping your blood sugar level making you feel like shit. Get some carbs in. Just hit chest myself about 15 minutes ago...had my shake and some rice and now enjoying a cigar.
What Cole said.

Im also a runner/'athlete' and feel the same way, some of my favorite times to smoke are after a hockey game & meal with the boys, post workout, long day of skiing etc. You gotta eat though. I typically only get the spins on fresh tobacco, and always when I havent eaten in a few hours. Some rest on your cigars can help as well (6mo-1yr).

^ nailed it. Fruit, gummy bears, any simple sugar for a quick boost for your blood sugar. Similar to what diabetics do if their levels start going too low. Same reason why soda or some sugar makes people feel better when they get nic sick.
