Occasionally I notice these blobs of reddish-brown goop on the cut end of a cigar. A couple times I was unlucky enough to have noticed them with my tongue rather than my eyes. Incredibly strong bitter disgusting taste.
I couldn't get the focus on the globs, but you can still see them.

Tar that seeps out. I've had it 3 times, different cigars, but the same company. It's disgusting enough that it's kept me from buying anything from that company the last few months

As has been said, it's tar. It happens occasionally and isn't brand specific. Sometimes cutting a tad more off the head can help but what can prevent it is "purging". Just blow through the cigar occasionally. I'm sure someone else will have another way or trick that they do but that's what works for me.

It could also be worse because of your v-cut, a dykemans cut might help. I've smoked a lot of cigars and I've caught none of them dripping with unknown goo like that, I would retire that marca from my lineup whatever it is instantly. There are plenty of other fish in the sea. Start smoking cheap aged padron maduros if you need a suggestion.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it happens more with torps and belis due to the shape. I've only had it happen once, but that was on a Churchill or gordo. I can't remember exactly. I cut a little deeper and it stopped, but definitely left a bad taste in my mouth regarding that cigar, excuse the bad pun.

Don't you dare blame the v-cut.

I believe it has something to do with the smoke being drawn through a constricted or tight space causing that tar to condense out of the smoke there. That's why you most often see it in a tapered head or a cigar that is somewhat plugged at the head. Also why cutting farther into the cigar, thereby increasing the size of the opening that the smoke exits the cigar, can alleviate the problem. It has little or nothing to do with the marca.

I have had it happen with everything from dog rockets to crowned heads sticks to Opus X. Also, size does not matter either apparently as it has happened for me with everything from lanceros to beli's.

From my experience I think that it has more to do with where and how you are smoking it more than anything. The "where" being temperature and humidity. For the most part it happens to me when it is cool outside and the humidity is high (think foggy). The "how" has to do with the speed that I smoke at. I have noticed that if I am smoking faster and not taking a reasonable amount of time between puffs (minimum 60-90 seconds) or if I double puff it is more likely to happen. Actually thinking about it, sometimes smoking too fast also results in a split wrapper (aka cigar blowing up) like you posted in the Today's smoke thread yesterday. Not 100% sure if it is either of those factors or a combination thereof but that seems to be when I see it the most.

Slowing down and periodic purging should help. And just like @THEMISCHMAN if it does happen I will slice a little bit more off the end and keep going.

I'm blaming the v-cut or Churcks or user error or bad tobacco or too hot cigar.

"Of course we serve Vegetarians here.....Just tell us how you want them cooked."

Used to hear the tar story a lot, right after the punch cutter became popular. I also had this problem when I tried a V cutter on a 58 rg cigar.
I am convinced it is because ALL of the smoke is being channeled into a tiny opening, and making a bigger cut does make it less noticeable, however by that time it has totally flavored the cigar.:vomit:
....and the off level cut on a torpedo is called the Dickman cut, not Dykeman..........just sayin'......
