Im 39 and in August I hit the big 40, no stress over the number at all, my life is great and we are planning one hell of a party. What Im looking for is the dream team list of smokes for the weekend my friend and I are planning. John is a Leo as well and our birthdays are only a few days apart so we do our birthdays together.
John has gone way out and gotten us a venue that is unbelievable. We have two balcony suites for Friday night at the Biltmore Hotel, A private pool side Cabana with private staff and the Al Capone Suite for Saturday night. This is not some Suite named after a guy, this is the place that Al Capone lived complete with the special desk put in for Bill Clinton when he stayed there. Hell I get to sleep in the bed the Pope slept in although Im going to try not to think about that while Im getting busy with the wife. This thing covers two whole floors of the hotel in the tower, has multiple balconies to smoke cigars on (As I imagine Al Capone did) and is something to see.
This kind of thing is priced way out of my norm, and Johns as well, but because he did some work for the hotel, part of his compensation was getting paid in services, so hes hooking us up.
So since thank you doesnt quite cover it, I want some amazing cigars for the weekend and am looking for suggestions. Only top of the top, his very favorites and hopefully things he hasnt gotten to try before or cant get. I want to hand him a box of cigars and have a matching box for myself so that whatever he is in the mood to smoke, I can have one with him and share the experience.
So far some of the smokes on the top of my list that I already have are: MC and RyJ (Although not #2s his favorite profile (only have 1 MC#2)), Opus X Forbidden 2004, Opus X No. 2 1997 (his favorite profile), AF Don Carlos Aniv. Toro, Tat Black, Ligra Privada No. 9, Don Seijas, and GOF Carlito (one of his very favorite smokes). That makes for 9 Sticks.
Below is a list he already has tried, can easily get or has in his humidor already: Ashton ESG, GOF DC, AF Anejo , Ashton VSG, CAO Vision, Zino Crown, La Aurora 100 Anos, Partagas 150, Trinidad 100th , La Flor Limitada III, Avo LE08, Camacho 10th, CAO Vision. So although great smokes, they dont hit the mark.
So help me out, I want to come up with at least 15 smokes and would prefer to fill a box, but I want them to be top list stuff, not my backups. What do you suggest and if any of you have a pair to trade, please let me know what you are looking for in return.
I have a maybe on a couple Pre-Embargo Cubans- he may want more than I'm willing to spend. I think some small batch Cigars like Illusione might be good, perhaps a Dark Prince and/or Holy Lance. I might pick up some Full Brass from Moore and Bode, although he knows them well it's symbolic, he got me some for a Birthday last year and we smoked one from the balcony of the very same suite.
This is a very, very good friend, jaded with 30+ years of smoking all kinds of cigars. I want him to say WOW, that will not be easy.
