Just to clear up a few things about El Triunfador.

When I talked to Dave about a week and a half ago, I mentioned we had about 300 boxes in stock which came in from the factory in Nica. Since then we have received another 250. This is a small run of cigars to protect the trademark. Each year we will make up to 25,000 sticks or 1000 boxes for sale to protect this mark and have enough to cover the demand.

There are no secrets about this cigar. This is a small run compared to others we make. I originally was only going to have them available to a small group of retailers until Cigar Aficionado wrote about it and blew my little secret. Truthfully, Dan from New Havana could have purchased all of this years production and sold it over the next 12 months without a problem.

I am making this size only until I figure out what I am doing with brand. When will I have a full line around the name? I do not know. Could be next year could be 2010 but I am not sure. I have no real grasp of what I want to do with the brand name yet other than protect it. The blend is very simply a Cabaiguan Maduro in a Lancero size. I have no plans to make a Cabaiguan Maduro Lancero ever and I thought this was a perfect cigar to use for El Triunfador. When and if I do come out with a full line of El Triunfador cigars, this cigar might go away and the blend and sizes will be different.

BTW, There are not that many boxes of Cabaiguan Maduros on the streets. We have made only 300 boxes of each of the two sizes. Not many at all. You will see more next year of Cabaiguan Maduro when I do the full release of that line to all Cabaiguan retailers. For now only the top 10 Cabaiguan retailers have them.

I could easily make more than 25,000 per year but it is much easier for me to do a specific amount and have one release per year until I decide to complete the El Triunfador concept.

I hope this clears things up.

Regards,
Pete

BTW, The Sugg.Retail for the El Triunfador is $9.00.

Man...I had no idea. It does taste like it, but I could have sworn it was a little different.

Freaky how taste changes in a different size. I won't go into details but the blend is Seco, Seco and Volado with a Broadleaf wrapper on both cigars.

First scoop here is that The Frank is a Taino blend with a Broadleaf wrapper. You will be amazed how much different that tastes next to a Miami made Taino.

Will you be announcing the 13 retailers that get the Frank ahead of time, or will we have to wait for the release? (I am assuming the plan is still to go to the top 13 retailers) I may have to take a road trip just to get my hands on this stick. I am such a cigar dork....I love scoop!

No kidding! I'm really surprised that there is volado in a lancero though...I figured that it would have been all seco.

Did you just call Pete a horse? :skew:

His girth is legendary...

I was just saying that Volado is usually a flavorless leaf; well, not completely flavorless. I know it's used as filler in the larger RG cigars to balance out and give a buffer so the Seco (the real flavor baby!) and Ligero (That's a spicy meatball!) don't compete for center stage.

Dave, Cubans designate Volado differently than Viso.

Indy, with the spice and huge flavor from the Broadleaf, we needed to tone the cigar down a bit but still have filler. So, we used the Volado to ad a touch of sweetness and the two Seco for the flavor(Yes Seco, the Real Flavor baby). You are so right on that one. This is why I don't understand why so many people are so obsessed with Ligero, Ligero, Ligero.

Marcia, Marcia, Marcia. All I hear is Marcia.

viso and volado are one and the same...right? My understanding was the cubans call it volado and Dominican and Nicaraguans call it viso.
I believe it's a different priming. There's all sorts of different terms.

some web page said:
Not all the leaves of the plant of the tobacco have the same chemical composition and therefore they respond to the chemical postulate that reads: “The chemical composition of the leaf varies with its position in the stem”, in general the basal leaves (they are the first four leaves) are those of smaller content of nicotine, aroma, nitrogenous substances etc. The most balanced leaves are the ones located in the central part of the stem, while the higher ones (the last four leaves) are those of most chemical composition. Next we offer the nomenclature corresponding to the leaves from the seedbed to the harvest.

Primordial leaves correspond to the seed-leaves and those lost in the seedbed.

Mañanitas, are the leaves that due to their reduced size and for being near the soil, are not collected, however in shade grown tobacco they are collected in order to ventilate and to clean up the plantation.

Libre de pie, they are the first commercial leaves of the plant, they are collected in number of two or three and the process is carried out 45 or 50 days after the sowing.

Uno y medio, are the leaves that are collected after the previous ones. Around two leaves are collected per plant and it is verified between 50 and 52 days after having planted tobacco.

Centro ligero, are the leaves located in the central basal area, and they are classified as high quality, two or four leaves are collected, it is verified between 58 and 62 days after the sowing.

Centro fino, these leaves are in the central part of the plant and they are classified as those of the highest quality, they are collected between two and four leaves, it is carried out between 68 and 72 days after having planted tobacco.

Centro gordo, are the leaves located in the superior area of the plant, thick, dark, with great development of the nerviations and with very high contents of oils and resins, the number of leaves to collect is of two although there are peasants that in this moment collect all the healthy leaves of the plant, this work is done between 73 and 75 days after having planted tobacco.

Corona, this name is due to the crown of the kings, this two leaves are the last two leaves developed in the stem of the plant of tobacco and with the harvesting of the them is crowned the effort and sacrifice of the growers when producing the aromatic leaf that after the harvest will become the king of kings that is our genuine Habano. This operation is carried out between 75 and 80 days after having planted tobacco.
