  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

does anyone keep an "inventory" of their humidor(s)? i have a friend that does this with an excel spreadsheet and is SUPER anal about it. half of me thinks its a good idea and i'll be able to see exactly what i have available to smoke/trade/bomb. The other half says just smoke the sticks and enjoy them! no need to keep track of what you have. any thoughts?

Yes I do, but it isn't a spreadsheet it's just a page on my website. Definitely not anal about keeping it up to date, but when I have some free time I'll usually update it about once a month or so.

When I started smoking I used to keep an inventory, but as time went by I'd forget to write something down or take something off, so I regulated it to the round file.

I don't keep an inventory.
Maybe I would if I had a substantial amount aging.

But, for the most part (aside from a few specials), I smoke my cigars.

I'm not loaded, so my collection isn't vast enough for me to really loose track of.
(Although, I'm ready to start another coolidor...)

I also kinda like coming across something I forgot that I had.

I did that just last night... I was running on a tangent reading reviews on a particular stick & salivating on getting a box. But I have yet to actually try one.... Wait a minute....

I went downstairs & check the bottom portion of my desktop & low & behold... There is the exact cigar! I think I'm gonna smoke it on the way to Philly on Thursday...

I have two humidors. Why? I don't know.:dunno: I think one is for aging and the other for smoking. Yesterday I took one out of the aging box to smoke. There goes accountability:crackwhip

Yeah, I usually like to keep an inventory once a month or so. Though smoking may be most of the fun . . . I think looking through the humi and being able to find something you forgot about is better than finding money in your pockets.

half of the fun is to go rummaging through your humi and finding an old stick you'd forgotten about!
Agreed! I maintain 4 humidors (kinda a pain in the a$$) and normally go from one to the other each night to pick out a smoke.

I have started labeling cigars as I get them in. I like to date receipt and from who.

I have an extensive Excel spreadsheet that I keep information on for my cigars:

Inventory #
Qty
Brand
Vitola
Length
Ring Gauge
Wrapper
Binder
Filler
Cost
Where Acquired
And extended value (cost x qty)

I gave it up a couple years ago when I looked at the bottom line extended value and realized what I had into cigars. That, plus it was just to time consuming and I came to the realization that I'd rather just smoke them than count them.

I used to. Had registered EVERYTHING and had space for a review of each. Until I realized it wasn't doing anything interesting for me.

No, but I do keep a review book of everything I've smoked.

I've been considering an inventory for quite a while, but haven't got around to it yet. It won't be too difficult, I only have 150-200 sticks or so.
