  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Hey guys, I know I haven't posted in some time, but with being back in school and working at Tobacco Grove now full time, I don't have much time for anything else.

Anyway, I wanted to let you all know I'm smoking a Lost City OpusX RIGHT THIS MINUTE(!) and am posting a review on our Twitter and FaceBook pages. You can friend Tobacco Grove on FaceBook or find me on Twitter at TobaccoGrove.

Let me know what you think!

The boxes were involved in a fire last month (just the packaging). They had to have them remade. The release was to be October, and we are still waiting to hear from the Fuente's.

Please fire us a review. Need to know what the dealio is on these.

I'll throw up a review on here from my posts on FaceBook and Twitter. I'll see if I can find out more about the boxes.

Okay, okay, photos are on my profile page now, I don't know how to post them to a message here.

As far as the review goes:

The cigar looked awesome out of the cello. Typical Prometheus/Fuente construction from their high end rollers. There wasn't much of an aroma from the un-lit cigar - but maybe that's just my nose. I cut the Double Robusto with my Xikar multi-tool. The cold draw was sweet, with a tinge of spice - very much like a God of Fire Double Robusto, or a Piramide, as well as the Don Carlos Edicion de Aniversarios. I lit it up with my Prometheus dual flame, and right away the flavors of aged Opus, God of Fire and Don Carlos came through. Some great subtle spice, but really pronounced sweetness and cedar flavors and aromas. The smoke smelled of cinnamon and cedar throughout the burn. As the second third came into existence, the horsepower really ramped up a notch. The spice kicked up, the sweetness moved to the background, this one reminded me of a fresh OpusX - one that needed another 6 months (but what would happen to the first third if it was aged for awhile longer?). In the final third the cigar got a little bitter every 3rd puff or so. I may have smoked it too fast, or it may have been because the wrapper was glued a little to the band, and as I removed the band, the wrapper blew - so I may have tasted a little too much binder. I had to put it down with a little over an inch to go.

The burn was perfect throughout the smoke, the aroma was typical Cameroon sweetness with the Dominican spiciness and cinnamon. This was a great smoke - definitely a must buy for Opus fans, and for those who aren't, or who only get them when they can, I would suggest buying 2-4 and smoking 1, aging the rest and enjoying them some other time. This cigar won't knock you out like a typical Opus can do to some people, so don't be afraid of that if you don't smoke them (although, this is only based on 1 cigar, from a guy who's smoked Opus for 6 years, and smokes daily).

Based on the fact that this cigar will end up being approximately $28-30, it's obviously a special occasion smoke - but realize this will only be available this fall, and will be gone forever - I would give it a 93/100.

Thanks for the review.....A 93 rating to a cigar that got bitter and you had to put down? I have never had an Opus "knock me out" before, not one.. I have actually had more bad than good ones, maybe I am doing it wrong..:dunno: I have a 5er of these supposedly coming my way when they hit. One of each vitola.. I am a little disappointed hearing your review. A 93?

I would consider anything above a 95 an instant classic - it doesn't fall into that range, yet. This also took into consideration the price, had it not been so rare, it may have been a 91. I usually don't smoke a cigar down to more than an inch and half, so I gave this one the old college try. Seeing as how I smoked it in a little over an hour, that may have contributed to the bitterness I experienced. The next one I smoke will be a little slower.

That is completely opposite of how I feel about rating a cigar knowing its price tag. When taking price into consideration, which should not be done when rating a cigar, if I felt that the cigar was a good cigar it might get some more points for being CHEAPER, not more expensive lol... That just doesn't make sense at all.... That is like walking into a cigar store and asking which is their most expensive cigar, obviously it has to be the best :nono: I have never heard of anyone reviewing ANYTHING and adding points because it is expensive, that is just ass backwards right there.

I think your a little out of line with your statement. I (but that's me) would not criticize someones review. I would do my own if I thought it was suspect. That's just my .02.

I didn't mean to offend anyone, I just disagree with adding points to a cigar because it costs more. I would do a review but I am terrible at them... His was better than mine would ever be, just the price thing got me.

EDIT: Not actually sure why you called me out on that one. I really don't think it was out of line.

Thing is...had ye left it until the red, that would be o.k., since it's a mere matter of opinions then. But then ye proceed to CRITICIZE the reviewer when, in the end, it's HIS review and HIS opinion.

As a man who has just made up with someone you would never expect. (SFL) Yes hell does freez over. I would like to say. Lets drop it. I know I can be more outspoken then anyone on here. But the brothers in this thread are some of the best I know. Things are heading the wrong way quick. Josh thanks for the review. And I'm shure Justin meant no harm by his statements.
