it's a fact you only see beetles at higher temps...that's why it's rare i store at the 70/70.

Thats why I freeze EVERYTHING i get!
sorry ben, freezing is something i just can't do in good conscience for my cigars...seen many issues from this method also. i think only a watchful eye and proper storage can take care of beetle egg hatching...once they hatch, maybe freezing would help the issue but thankfully never had a beetle problem...i've even adopted a box of known beetle infested cigars.

I think it is a ploy to get you to buy traps. If you dont see tunnel holes in your cigars, dont worry about it. Just my two cents.
i couldn't agree more...no bug trap costs $8, it looks like sticky paper from a crappy website.

I won't be buying one. I don't like the line where they say something like "We aren't sure if the trap makes the beetles burrow out of the cigars"

Yessss the dreaded bettle....I have even seen it's damage at my local cigar shop! As long as your keeping your Humi's at it's intended temps you really should have know problem with this. I have had my Humi's going strong for almost a year and a half now with no issues.
I will say the only time I really worrie about it is durring the summer temps when I recieve a package because it has benn exposed to the hot temps for a spell. So when I get something durring these times I will freeze the cigars for a few just as a precaution.

Gotta wonder if they will be coming out with video surveillance and fumigation for our humidors? It's bad enough I gotta watch the evening news where they are trying to scare the bejeebers out of me now they are coming after my cigars with threats of laying traps for beetles? Imagine how tasty they will be once you trap a few of the critters on it and don't open your humi for a few days. Oh the humanity!

I've seen beetles but only at the B&M and it's rare. We used to keep those traps in our cabinet humidors and they do work if you have beetles.

On a side note I believe a lot of companies do a deep freeze on all their tobacco before it gets rolled. I also think that some other companies do another quick freeze before they leave the respective country they originate.

Just an FYI, there are a number of overseas vendors that freeze every box they receive before putting the them in their own warehouses. I have tried cigars from different boxes with the same box code where one was frozen and the other was not and I could not tell any difference. I may not have the best palette, but I don't have the palette of a billy goat either. Bottom line is, do whatever you feel necessary and comfortable with to keep your cigars safe.

If done properly, (triple bag with heavy mil plastic, bring the cigars SLOWLY down to temp over the course of several days and returning back to temp slowly, making sure the temp gets low enough to actually take care of the eggs) this can work without damage or noticeable change to the flavor of a cigar. But most people don't do this properly and so still have a chance for infestation anyway and/or ruin the cigar.

I've had the same glasstop humidor for a little over three years now with no issues. I used to keep it at 70% but I now keep it at 65%. If it gets hot in the summer, I blast the A/C, to hell with my electricity bill. My cigars come first!
