Hey All,

I know we got some cigar rituals people, lets have'em.
Since I don't smoke everyday I mainly save my smoking for the weekend, but when I do I go through the whole 9 yards. First I plan which ones im going to smoke in the beginning of the week. Once the weekend is here I pick out which cutter im going to use, make sure the lighter is sparking I have a simple ashtray for right now but it gets the job done and my drink of choice. When You think about it if you love to do something so much your going to take the time to do it right including smoking a cigar! Once my arsenal is ready Smell, Cut, light the rest is history!

Wow that all sounds a little too anal (no offense) for me. I just grab what cigar catches my eye, pour a drink, and away we go

I'm with you Tony. At most I might dry box one that I'm planning on smoking later.

Guess it depends on if it's a cigar I'm doing a review on. If I'm reviewing it there are certain steps I go though, if I'm not then it's pretty much just grab, cut, light.

I wouldn't call it a ritual but most of the time I make sure I have a good drink, good music, and I do take my time to light my cigar and make sure I have enough time to enjoy it.

I don't stress over the little details too much because life aint perfect.

1st thing I do is select my beer and put it on ice while I pick out my cigar and get my ashtray, lighter and cutter. I age my beer, just like I age my cigars, so I have two decisions to make. Then I pick out my music. Light up and enjoy.

Something like that;

I grab a cigar, I only have 1 cutter, grab all 5 lighters(use the one that has fluid in it), light start smoking, grab cold beer or glass of Makers and enjoy.

Key phrase ENJOY!

But if it works for you keep it up.

Thats the point I was trying to make....The enjoyment....I can concur to some it may seem anal, but for the sake of argument I tend to take my cigar smoking just a little bit more serious than that. Just the extra steps I take to enjoy myself, as you can tell from my posts I enjoy this! If It were that simple and if others didn't enjoy it as much then... BOTL wouldn't exist and i guess this would be considered anal as well.

but thats just my opinion.

I get my laptop, drink, and one of the 3-4 I dry box for the occasion. Like you, I'm now smoking 1-2 cigars a week.

On weekdays I come home from work about 10:30 :)argh: swing shift sucks) grab a beer and head out to my back patio. I light my tiki torches and unwind with a cigar. On weekends I either fire up the grill or the smoker and enjoy a good meal put on some good music, grab a beer and then enjoy a good cigar.

OK..I might be a tad anal. First I have to have my Diet Coke (Unless it's a weekend Rumer). My MP3 player with my fav music and my Droid phone. Before I cut my cigar I must gently moisten the head and let it somewhat air-dry. This is my daily ritual and I wont fire it up until it's all in line. Ofcourse this is when I'm alone...when I'm with company I don't care about the smaller chit!

I usually plan for hours, if not days, what my next cigar will be. However, 95% of the time I end up picking something else when I open up the humi!

Side note: this thread is the most times I've seen the word "anal" without pictures :)

I posted up my ritual about 4 years ago, here it is again.
When the weather is warm, I have a very strict ritual that I follow when I'm going to light my cigar. I find it has a dramatic effect on how the cigar burns and tastes.

First, at 11:30 pm, when the kids are in bed, I strip off all of my clothes and cover my body with ashes of previously smoked cigars. This is done as a homage to the sacrifice all of the tobacco plants have made through the ages for the benefit of our earthly pleasures. Then, I face directly south, praying to the Gods of Tobacco that once roamed the Earth and settled in what we now know as Cuba. While saying these chants, I sprinkle more ashes around the yard. Then, a non cuban cigar is brought forth on a silver platter for the sacrifice. The sacrifice of the non cuban cigar is to cleanse the tobacco of all inferior varieties, thus ensuring the one, true tobacco only grown in Cuba. The sacrifice is performed with the ceremonial Swiss Army Knife cutter. Any similar, sacred cutter can be used, but punches are not suitable for this ritual.

Then, I take out my war drums and dance a dithyramb. This is an ancient Greek song sung by 50 men and boys in honor of the god Dionysus, god of fertility and wine. The dithyramb builds to a wild frenzy with chanting and drumming. At the climax of the dithyramb, the ceremonial fire is set. After a roaring blaze is achieved, the cigar chosen for this special occasion is lit at the foot. It is extremely important that the cigar is completely lit while the frenzy of the dance is at its height, or the enjoyment will be totally diminished.

Spent from the frenetic dance, I then lounge in my outdoor chair, enjoying with long, slow draws, contemplating the wonders that we know to be the flavors of a cuban cigar.

I follow a routine if I'm expecting a memorable smoke (a premium cigar). Laptop on the patio with external speakers and Havana classics on Pandora, log on to BOTL, Cohiba ashtray, 2-3 lighters, a drink (beer or tea) my punch and Yak Yak on the iPhone.

If it's a budget cigar, I just sit on the patio and fire up... And, I hope tubaman gets dressed before the sun rises...
