Starting the last 3rd of my Sultan now.

Backing up I’ll start with the pre-light inspection. When I first received the cigar the wrapper was coming loose at the midpoint of the cigar. A little repair job and all seemed good.
It was resting in the humi for over a week @66% RH before smoking it now. The cigar was very well constructed and evenly packed and the pre-light draw was perfect. I did notice a couple of cracks in the wrapper but was hoping it would not be an issue.

I’ll talk about the taste and then get back to the construction. I would put this at a mild to maybe mild-med bodied range. It is a very smooth cigar and one of the easiest and smoothest cigars to retro-hale that I have ever smoked. As far as the flavor goes I can’t quite pick out any real predominant flavors. If I had to guess I would say creamy and a little nutty with some sweet tobacco. The one thing for sure is that it is a very pleasant tasting cigar. It has a very unique flavor that I can’t really relate to any other cigar I have smoked but very pleasant nonetheless. This would make a great morning or mid day cigar.

As far as the construction goes, everything started out well. The burn was a little wavy but pretty much self corrected for the first 3rd. As I was finishing the first 3rd I noticed a small spot about ¼” behind the burn line. It started to grow and on the next puff burned through from the inside and the burn line sharply burned down and met it in a v shape. This was very unusual and I have never seen this happen before. At this point the burn definitely needed to be corrected. As I got into the second 3rd the wrapper started coming apart to the extent that repair wasn’t an option. I continued to smoke through it but had to hold the wrapper together with my fingers. By the time I got into the final third this was no longer possible as the wrapper completely fell apart. I continued smoking it but with just binder and no wrapper. I will end the cigar here now as the flavor definitely diminished after losing the wrapper.

In conclusion I think the Sultan was a very pleasant cigar and I’m going to chalk up the construction issues as an anomaly as I don’t recall any of the previous reviewers having this problem. I would like to give it another try as well as the signature series as it was a pleasant smoke. Sorry that I don’t have any pics to go with my review as some of the other great reviews that have been posted.

Thanks for reading,
Rick
