Interesting... I'm sure a bunch will sell for the curiosity factor. Then the reviews will come out and people will know if it's worth the money. I imagine these will be sold at a premium. I don't know enough about this family so I can't really comment, but I have always wanted to smoke a hybrid, hopefully this is done with quality.

I see there's already a review out there... fresh off the plane ride from Honduras. Will wait to see how they come about. I'm curious about these, but I really would like to smoke a current/fresh hybrid from the recently good cuban tobacco with current NC tobacco.

I'd like to try some of the blends from pre "96 -97" that were still from fresh CC bales. I just hope the NC binder/wrapper doesn't overwhelm the filler.

I don't imagine that Habanos S.A. is too excited about this. Might punch holes in the mystique and exclusivity factors.

everyone forced off the island has had to innovate fot 50 years, using soil types, curing methods, and tobacco strains they never would have dreamed of prior, out of necessity. i don't think the cuban puro would ever go to the wayside, but it may finally put weight on them to maintain quality control if they had more direct competition.

also, pepin, the padrons, or the fuentes with cuban tobacco. that thought makes me happy.

EDIT: also, how much do you think will be noticable with cuban tobacco just in the filler?

"For years, we've been waiting for the embargo to end, but it never did, so the La Estancia brand is what we decided to do with all that tobacco."

Um, the embargo doesn't stop you from making cigars with it. Just from selling them in the US.

This statement doesn't hold water.

Also, who is to certify how much of the tobacco they say is Cuban is actually Cuban?

And as JJ asked above, what difference will it make to the taste anyway? Why not just, you know, make CCs?

This is just weird all around.

Hmmmm. Would be interested to try, but I think they would be overpowered like was already mentioned. Even "maduro" habanos aren't terribly "maduro" by NC standards. It will be a balancing act for sure.
Edit: at least the binder would have to be Cuban for the flavor to peak through the wrapper, no? Any rollers/remixers on here want to give it a go?

I'm the eternal optimist as far as cigars go. I hope the new ones that come out will be a huge hit...unfortunately the record falls short of reality...but I still hope.

I have tried blending with Cuban leaf.Generally the tobaccos I have are Nicaraguan,Columbian,Cameroon,Brasilian,Dominican,Pennsylvania broadleaf, and a few others.

The Cuban leaf has been from plugged or damaged sticks I have.

The Cuban flavors and aromas are easily overshadowed and masked by most all of the leaf I have tried, with the exception of Cameroon.

It is surprising that even just a broadleaf wrapper can totally overpower a petit corona sized stick, even a Bolivar.

To blend Non Cuban tobacco with Cuban will be tricky,if you want the Cuban essence to come through.

If I had bales of aged Cuban tobacco I know what I would do...........

I would guess that since these are being made with cuban tobacco, you will not see any direct US sales and will have to take your chances just like any CC you may acquire. The comment about the embargo is probably because they wanted to do this after it lifted (could sell in the US, which is a big market share from what I understand). Obviously there is a worldwide demand outside the US, but it's more on the CC's (but the NC has climbed over the past years, correct me if I am wrong).

My interest is definitely peaked though, may have to try and find some. Thanks for sharing!

I know that in Canada, there are more CCs than NCs. Most B&M have like 2/3 CC content. CCs are always puros. What's good with most NC is that there is some research made in the blend, which puros lack of. I find there's more flavours in well-made blends than in puros.

I like CCs, but CC-NC hybrids will be interesting to me.

That being said, I don't see them being able to pass the US borders any easier than puros.

just my opinion.

Not surprising at all the vast majority of CCs fall into medium and below.

I've had cigars made at Vallarta cigar factory in Puerto Vallarta that supposedly had Cuban tobacco in the filler, and wrapper, these were very tasty cigars.
