our church started a security team after the shooting in Texas? I think it was
We installed security cameras and have someone on duty during service, plus almost all of the guys ( and some of the lady's) are armed also
Just wondered if others have instituted security measures at church.
It just seems prudent these days

Yep we do it as well, our security detail is comprised mostly of retired military. I would be concerned for anyone trying anything at our church. Those guys are just waiting for something to happen!

I think more and more churches are doing it. Church's are mostly all the same, the front door into the building is in the rear so an intruder is in a position to atack from the rear.
A complete security plan is important.

Sad times that a Church has to consider becoming a militia...what did Jesus tell Peter in the Garden... pretty sure the written account didn't say "cut off his other ear" ... it grieves me that Society is using the Church as a battleground and political instrument to accomplish an agenda... what's next... replacing Church Camp with Boot Camp?

Sad times that a Church has to consider arming itself...what did Jesus tell Peter when Peter cut the ear off of one of the guards that came for him in the Garden....? Has Society replaced teachings with expediency when this was taught over 2000 years ago.... religion now uses small weapons,,,bombs,,,etc. all over the world and yet preaches love and peace at the same time? It's ironic that the Church feels it necessary to become a militia to teach the World about God...sad times and the phrase about turning the other cheek means exactly what?
Turning the other cheek is about forgiveness and humility not allowing yourself to be victimized or abused.
I don’t think we were talking about a militia but expressing the current reality that churches have become a target and needing to respond proactively and appropriately. Would you prefer we preached love and peace and allow our people to be slaughtered!
I take the same approach with protecting my family, I will promote peace and love people but if someone comes to harm my family I’ve been given the responsibility of protecting them!

Gotta be a better strategy.....

I'm in agreement as to protection of my family as well. .. .should we be armed to the teeth for any eventuality... where is the line?.. .should we live in a bunker. . live in fear daily. .. .life is a daily risk but bringing in munitions into a Church is not the answer. .. it's just a symptom of fear of inherently evil things and if guns are the answers that we choose to bring to a Church Service... we need better answers and our children who watch this play out where weapons are part of the Worship Service. ..that is gonna leave them with less hope than they had before they were taught how to hope. Guess this thread could go sideways with politics and religion... not my intention as I never envisioned such a subject matter would be entertained. .. people look for reasons not to attend Services. . this just makes it too easy. . very sad. ( last post in this thread.. .hope it is closed for not being appropriate )

Gary, what solution do you suggest? When a evil filled person walks into a church with the intent of murdering everyone they can, what is your solution?
If an evil person knows no one inside can fight back against him, he would be more likely to carry out his attack. But if he knows or thinks it will be 20-1 against him, he may not attack at all.
You are a good man Gary and I very much respect your position, but I disagree on this one.

We have security at our church also. I assume they are all carrying although I haven’t asked. But the sucurity personnel are at the entrance to the church and out of site of the worshipers. So it doesn’t have the feel of a fearful church. And I don’t think the children are even aware that they are protected by armed security.
I have a CCW license but don’t feel the need to carry during church as others have taken on that responsibility.

Sir: there is so much wrong with your statement I don't know where to start

We will have to agree to disagree

Edit: the fact that Jeaus traveled with an armed escort should be all that has to be said about weapons in church
Also we are to stand between good and evil and I for one will stand and use more then harsh language!!

It looks like this topic hasn’t changed a lot since 2019. The recent attack on the SDA church raised this question again. I think churches should be protected just like any other public place because they become the target of attacks too often. Some people just cannot stand there still are people who go to church and believe in God in this country.
That’s why I urge the local portland oregon churches to implement the security measures too. You should trust God but, at the same time, not forget you are still responsible for taking action to protect yourself and your family. God will help you with this, but he will not make a decision and take an initial action instead of you.
