• BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

    Pics of Your Sticks

That's quite a list! A wise man once said..."If a cigar is rolled with poorly flavored tobacco, no matter how pretty it looks it will always be a bad cigar. However, even a poorly rolled cigar can be enjoyable when using good tobacco." So all those flaws you're worried about are very minor and...

This is an interesting subject. In what way do you think they could be improved to where you would be satisfied ?

Some wrappers never turn out nice and flat no matter how tight I wrap it. Thinner wrappers come out fine but the thicker ones definitely benefit from a second press. One such wrapper is the Pa Oscuro which always turns out a bit lumpy and veiny. Last night I rolled a couple and placed them...

I'm curious to hear how the Nic wrapper tastes. Sounds like the Ecuador seco may be the winner. I would have thought the Ligero would be much darker than the seco. It's nice to be able to buy smaller samples to try before committing to a pound.

    How to Make Cigars

I've heard mention and seen videos to get your leaf as flat as possible (including the veins) to 'press' it out using a rolling pin. It does little to nothing and isn't worth the effort IMO. The method posted will make the leaf flat as possible with little effort and all your "crunkles" will be...

    How to Make Cigars

The leaf is a tad dry and crinkly when he picks it up but in seconds it's wet and stretched perfectly. Same guy and you can see the wetness of the surface...

    How to Make Cigars

This 'wet stick method' yields far better results than trying to press out the wrinkles with a rolling pin. Not even close.

    How to Make Cigars

I'd guess that hanging them allows for aeration on all sides somewhat equal. To get them flat as possible... (super flat) If you'll use a non-porous surface (either stainless steel or polished granite) when you wet the leaf (as shown in the video) it will adhere itself to the surface. This...

I learned to roll Jamaican 'spliffs' back in the late 60's. It's all about the blend. Straight Jamaican is too powerful.

Both the label and the workmanship both look like a fake Cohiba. Bliss cigars look more like the real thing.

Thanks for the comments! I've been leaning towards the Ecuador ligero. I may also try the lighter Ecuador seco to see what the other end of the spectrum has to offer.

I'd be very interested (please, please, please) to hear a review of the Ecuador ligero vs. the San Andres once you get going with them. Should be some great wrapper there!

Yes, that's it! I would however suggest eating a fair amount of asparagus prior to pissing on the cigar. It's a flavor secret very few rollers know about.(y)

    crooks

Smoked many Crooks (rum soaked cigars) I don't see any advantage to taking a perfectly good cigar and bending it into a possible draw problem by squishing into a crooked shape. I also don't think Crooks cigars were long filler rolled entubado. Loose filler would probably bend better and be less...

All's well that ends well. Hope you like the leaf. I sometimes wondered if WLT and LO used the same distributor. I found the product to be very similar except LO offers a larger selection from which to choose. A week or so for delivery never bothered me as I'm in no hurry. Here in Florida is...

Man that says it all right there!! In the end it's your cigar and do what makes you happy.

To Trim or Not to Trim

It's good to experiment with different methods to see what the end result can give. I'm sort of in both camps. Make sure it's cut square then slightly trim the sharpness off the edge with scissors and then slide it in tight (jam it in there snug). Takes a little finger nail to tuck in the...

One more point... as this processing occurs I take the time to separate the thinnest leaves and set them in a separate pile. Done out of a pound of seco will yield a good amount of volado used for it's good burning quality since it's so thin.
