• BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

It's not hard to do and part of the fun! For filler... if you follow the video, once the leaves are moist and soft then removing the stem is easy. Once destemmed unravel each leaf and lay them flat in piles. I let them flatten out over night and then spread them out on a table the next day to...

Starting at 28:55 they show the tobacco being sprayed and dunked in a barrel of water. Just a quick bath and shaken out.

An interesting point is how they wash the tobacco prior to use. Just a 15 second rinse. Some even get additional warm water rinse. I also see the same rinse of water on several of the Cuban videos on Youtube. This makes me wonder... should we wash our leaves? Is there 'stuff' that should be...

The "What should I buy/try next?" Tobacco Thread

Honduran was not my favorite. However, their Colombian seco has a nice 'horseshityness' that I like. The Dominican seco and Nic seco are the same as WLT and of the two I prefer the Dominican. One of my all time favorite wrappers is the Brazilian. Thin, delicate with small veins and burns nice...

Use what tobacco you currently have. The three basic leaves used are Volado (thin seco) for combustion, Seco for aroma/flavor and ligero for strength/flavor. A simple rule of thumb is to start use 1/3 of each in equal amounts. A good exercise in blending would be to roll the mildest cigar...

Welcome! Nice to hear you're using the videos and hope they help you get started. I'm originally from Monmouth county (Colt's Neck). My claim to fame is I went to high school with Bruce Springsteen in Freehold.(I know... big deal) My advice would be to get a few rolled and get that part going...

Two tricks for flat finish.... If you leave your bunch in the mold overnight the 'foundation' will be flatter. Then, if your wrapper is veiny, after you finish wrap them place them back in the mold to finish press them. This does exactly what your saying in that it 'pushes the veins in'. You...

    Blend testing

Jorge's tobacco is definitely stronger than the other suppliers. The dark wrapper is a powerhouse of nicotine. I'd suggest the combination of criollo ligero, Dominican and Piloto. Then try another blend using the addition of Jorge's ligero just to see what the difference is. Use the...

    Blend testing

Go for it! There's lot's of flavor in the ligero. I like a combination filler of 3 ligeros. Criollo98(med), dominican(mild) and a touch of Nicaraguan(strong). No seco or viso in the filler. Use a thin binder for easy burn (Dom seco) and a mild and thin wrapper like Brazilian. PA broadleaf...

    Place to start

Just make sure you like the blend enough to roll that many at one time. I found that if there was a discovery of an improved blend then were regrets of rolling so many prior. I really like playing with different flavors and blends so just a couple of trial cigars is plenty to roll at one time...

This is what I do also. By leaving it in the mold overnight it has a chance to dry out and holds it's shape much better.

    Cigar authority radio show

We as cigar rollers (ambassadors of twizzle) are really not part of their business. We have nothing to offer as far as promotion of the business they're in. We're really outsiders. Still, I enjoy the show and hearing of things in the cigar world such as the FDA in today's show. We will be...
