• BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I can't imagine rolling cigars (or doing other things) with nails that long. Yikes!

Have you smoked his cigars? Do you taste a difference? These guys say they use pinapple rinds, rum, guava leaves,,,

    Sources for leaf to roll

Another option is you can also order 1/4 lb. samples from Leafonly to explore. Samples are the best way to go IMHO. Currently WLT is 'out of stock' on many key items such as Dominican seco and ligero or Nicaraguan seco and piloto cubano are missing as well. It's nice to order from one source so...

I do my caps the same way he does them. Slather a bit of glue on the head first. Like a primer prior to placing the cap. Then glue on the cap itself. When you place the cap it makes it easy for any adjustment to dead center since it's a bit slippery. The cap should be higher case so it's nice...

    How to Make Cigars

I always felt that the 3/8" from the base of the cap to the top of the head was too small. Over the years I've had many caps pop completely off when cutting the end for smoking and it really ruins the experience as the cigar tries to unravel. I'm very happy to extend mine to 1/2" or more and...

    'Petuning'/Flavoring leaf for beginners

For those who dare.... The discovery of learning to process your leaf and take it in a direction that fits your flavor profile is an important part of blending. It will essentially open a new door of endless, creative ideas. It's important to understand that certain things are added to cigar...

You make that look easy. Excellent work! The music is wonderful. Is it a CD all of the same artist or a compilation that you selected?

I mentioned my latest experiment involves applying an aqueous solution of ammonia carbonate and water. No flavoring. This sort of kick starts the fermentation process. After several weeks of fermentation the tobacco can be brought to higher temps which causes the ammonia to evaporate. After the...

My favorite neutral/mild wrapper is the 'Mata Fina Brazilian Wrapper leaf' from LO. Small veins, nice color, thin and burns well and compliments any filler without over powering it. It's a smaller sized leaf and you get many wrappers in a pound of leaf. Good stuff and good value as well. IMHO...

    Moldy glue

Man, that's a lot of glue. I mix it fresh everytime I roll and use just enough glue (gum tragacanth) to use that night. The amount is the size of my thumb nail. Takes a few seconds to mix it up. Xanthan gum seemed to get moldy faster than any other glue I tried even though it was kept...

    Adventures in home rolling

Of what I've read the ammonia is easily removed by heat. Once the ammonia is gone the remaining leaf has a PH that's alkaline. This makes the smoke harsh. The addition of citric acid lowers the PH making the smoke smoother. The best result is applying citric acid during the fermentation process...

Much like making love... A push, a pull and a harmonic, erotic, romantic blending can occur. However, this process requires a much shorter time period. :cigar:

I believe you said you use tea in your cigars. In several videos they say the use guava leaves. You might try guava tea as an experiment. :) http://www.amazon.com/Herbal-Guava-Leaves-Diabeties-Bags/dp/B003VPT3L8/ref=sr_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1459300445&sr=8-3&keywords=guava+leaf

Another farm where they describe a similar 'Mojito' concoction for petuning.... The one guys family uses a different recipe than the other. Though the recipes do differ, the one thing they all do in common is after they petune the tobacco it gets stacked and put away for at least 4 months or...

Interesting video from Cuban farmer. They give 90% to the government and keep 10% for themselves. Interesting points are they don't ferment. After curing in the barn the government takes it and they do their own processing. The farmer then ferments his tobacco and petunes it using rum, lemon...
