• BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

    New wineador

I like the look of your cigar box shelves. I think a wineador looks best when it is a bit messy. Sort of gives it the well-used look.

    Tubos

I cannot see any reason as to why they would age any differently in the tubes.

    n00b Question: Cigar Construction - The Cap(s)

I don't know the official reason for double caps but I find that if they have single caps then the cap is cut off and the cigar has more of a chance of unraveling during smoking. With a second cap, which is larger, I tend to cut off the first cap and a ring of the second cap is still there to...

So I think that I received a box of fakes

I have enjoyed a few "real" Cohibas and I have had lots of the fake Esplendidos. I would never trust a fake purchased anywhere other than Cuba but the ones I've had that I know were made in Cuba have all been very nice. Cuban tobacco, well made, good burn and draw, overall a very good smoke...

    Isolating wineador

l have struggled with this issue for years. Most of what I read agrees with Tobacco Giant such as this link http://www.stogiefresh.info/edu-humidors/articles/temperature-humidity-part1.html , but last year I read a web page that explained why the change in temperature did not affect the...

    Adventures in home rolling

I would love to share. It's quite easy as long as you have some contrasting wrapper to use. Simply make your cigar and wrap it as usual. Then cut a strip of the contrasting leaf about 1/2" wide. It should be long enough to do the job. If it's not you can carefully paste another piece to...

    Adventures in home rolling

I decided to do a bit of rolling yesterday. I haven't done any for about a year. I grew a few plants of two types of tobacco a few years ago and rolled quite a few the first year, but now I only roll a handful every year. I'm almost out of tobacco now. When I fermented my tobacco I did some...

Aging cigars in their own box or not?

Airflow is not to help the cigars, it is to equalize the environment inside the humidor. If you don't have problems with RH variations in your storage unit then there is no reason for air movement (circulation). Also, I think the biggest contribution the cigar box makes is the faint odor of...

    If you like these .....

There are many threads that list our favorite sticks, our favorite yard gars, our favorite cheap smokes and I get lots of good suggestions from them, but this thread is for getting suggestions that fit our existing preferences. I suggest that we post a few cigars that are typical of what we...

How do really old cigars survive ?

When I was pondering the question and decided to post it I was thinking of all the trouble I have had with various desk top humidors. I forgot that some people live in parts of the world where active humidity management is not even necessary. I live in Ontario and the summers are 80-90 deg...

How do really old cigars survive ?

My experience over the past several years has taught me that to keep the RH constant it is important to have a good seal on your humidor or whatever you are using for long-term storage. That is why so many experienced cigar people use Tupperware or winadors. So here's my question. There are...

Turning a nice box into storage

I have built my own desk top humidor. That was before I moved to a winador. My opinion, for what it's worth, is that you should use the box as a show piece and not as a humidor for long-term storage. A good humidor should be air tight. That is why so many people eventually move to...

Heartfelt or KL ... What's in you unit

Well, it seems that Bodeva, HF beads and KL all work great. I think the the only time people have a problem is when they don't use enough of these descants or they use a leaky desktop humidors. The big difference between these products is that KL is DIRT CHEAP !
